\n\tRema<\/a>, one of Nigeria\u2019s biggest pop stars<\/a>, has sampled British-Nigerian soul icon Sade<\/a> Adu on his latest single, \u201cBaby (Is It a Crime).\u201d The sultry Afrobeats song borrows the titular refrain from the band Sade\u2019s 1985 single \u201cIs It a Crime.\u201d\u00a0 The new track marks Rema\u2019s first single since\u00a0 Bnxn<\/a>\u2019s \u201cFi Kan We Kan\u201d in October.<\/p>\n \n\tSade Adu\u2019s voice is the first to break through the intro\u2019s staticky crackle while slick drums kick in. \u201cBaby\/Baby sunmoni\/You know say you match my steeze,\u201d Rema sings in Pidgin through his signature wiggly trill. \u201cYou know I\u2019m a G\/Shawty. I\u2019mma always keep it real\/I no dey for too much whining\/Dey for too much whining.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tHe began teasing the song in November, leaving many fans clamoring for the new song on X. On Feb. 4, the day the singer announced on X<\/a> that the full song would be released on Feb. 7 (along with an official music video), photos<\/a> of the singer with Sade\u2019s Promise<\/em> vinyl under his arm floated across the web. That, naturally, is the album on which \u201cIs It a Crime\u201d is featured.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tAt the 67th Grammys on Feb. 2, Rema\u2019s 2024 album Heis <\/em>was nominated for Best Global Album, losing to Matt B featuring Royal Philharmonic Orchestra\u2019s Alkebulan II<\/em>. Rolling Stone<\/em> named Heis <\/em>the 11th best album<\/a> of 2024. \u201cWith everything going viral and everything just spreading across the world, I feel like it has also affected the sound [of Afrobeats],\u201d Rema told<\/a> Rolling Stone <\/em>ahead of the album. \u201cWe\u2019re not just making what the people at home would enjoy.
