Coli Outbreak: CDC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/popcrush.com\/tags\/mcdonalds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McDonald&#8217;s<\/a> is acting quickly to stop the spread of E. coli after an outbreak was linked to its Quarter Pounder burger.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ecoli\/outbreaks\/e-coli-O157.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CDC), is on the case after many illnesses were reported, with a majority of the reports coming in from Colorado and Nebraska.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A complete map of locations regarding the outbreak is available <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ecoli\/outbreaks\/where-people-got-sick-e-coli-o157-2024.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Oct. 22 (Tue.), the CDC\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/ecoli\/outbreaks\/e-coli-O157.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announced<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they are investigating 49 illnesses that have been linked to the menu staple after one person died and 10 were hospitalized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The CDC believes that the &#8220;true number of sick people in this outbreak is also likely much higher than the number reported.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/popcrush.com\/mcdonalds-french-fries-supplier-closes-plant-layoffs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McDonald\u2019s French Fries Supplier Closes Plant, Fires More Than 300 People: Here\u2019s Why<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>McDonald&#8217;s shared a <a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.mcdonalds.com\/corpmcd\/our-stories\/article\/always-putting-food-safety-first.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">message on their newsroom site<\/a>, insisting that the American staple is &#8220;taking swift and decisive action following&#8221; the outbreak.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The initial findings from the investigation indicate that a subset of illnesses may be linked to slivered onions used in the Quarter Pounder and sourced by a single supplier that serves three distribution centers,&#8221; <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">McDonald&#8217;s North America Chief Supply Chain Officer, Cesar <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pi\u00f1a said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pi\u00f1a noted that the popular burger chain is cooperating fully with the CDC, and that &#8220;all local restaurants have been instructed to remove this product from their supply and we have paused the distribution of all slivered onions in the impacted area.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/popcrush.com\/ixp\/341\/p\/teen-chain-restaurant-coffee-trends\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teens Used To Love These Chain Restaurants, But That\u2019s Changing Fast<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In several states, the Quarter Pounder has been completely removed from the menu for the time being as the company takes &#8220;food safety extremely seriously,&#8221; and feels &#8220;it\u2019s the right thing to do.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;All other menu items, including other beef products (including the Cheeseburger, Hamburger, Big Mac, McDouble and the Double Cheeseburger) are unaffected and available.
