\n\tJeanette<\/a> found out that Selena Gomez<\/a> and Benny Blanco<\/a> had sampled her classic \u201cEl Muchacho de Los Ojos Tristes\u201d just this morning. The Spanish singer, who rose to prominence in the Seventies and Eighties, received a text from her friend (and new collaborator) Lucas Bun informing her of Gomez and Blanco\u2019s \u201cOjos Tristes,\u201d which interpolates her classic with an added English lyric and second verse from The Marias<\/a>. Jeanette loved it.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI\u2019ll tell you the truth: It\u2019s beautiful,\u201d she tells Rolling Stone<\/em> over the phone from Spain. \u201cI heard just a snippet this morning, but have now listened to the whole thing just before speaking to you.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a classic cover but she has added a modern twist to it while respecting the essence of the original song,\u201d she adds. \u201cI think they\u2019ve done such a gorgeous\u00a0job. It\u2019s lovely.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tOn Jeanette\u2019s 1981 original, she sings to a young man she\u2019s just met \u201cwith sad eyes, who lives alone and needs love.\u201d On Gomez and Blanco\u2019s version, Gomez sings a first verse in English before Maria Zardoya of the Mar\u00edas takes on a cover of Jeanette\u2019s Spanish song. Zardoya also adds \u201ca different perspective\u201d in the second verse to convey the passage of time: \u201cAntes eran tus ojos lloviendo en oto\u00f1o\/Y ahora son los m\u00edos.\u201d (In English: \u201cBefore, it was your eyes raining in autumn\/And now it\u2019s mine.\u201d)<\/p>\n
