Thirty-seven years after it went missing, French police recovered the graffiti-covered bust while carrying out a search in a separate fraud investigation<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
\n\tAfter nearly 40 years, a bust of Jim Morrison<\/a> stolen from his gravesite at the famous P\u00e8re-Lachaise cemetery<\/a> in Paris has been found.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tFrench police rediscovered the marble bust while carrying out a search in a completely unrelated fraud investigation.<\/em> Authorities have yet to share further details, meaning there\u2019s still some mystery left as to who\u2019s responsible for decapitating the statue, and where it\u2019s been hiding all these years. It\u2019s also unclear if the statue will now be returned to Morrison\u2019s gravesite.\u00a0<\/p>\n \n\tA rep for the Morrison estate tells Rolling Stone<\/em> it was \u201chappy to hear the news\u201d of the statue\u2019s re-discovery, adding, \u201cObviously it\u2019s a piece of history, and one Jim\u2019s family wanted there on his grave, so it\u2019s gratifying to see that it\u2019s been recovered.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe bust of Morrison was sculpted by Croatian artist Mladen Mikulin and unveiled in 1981 on the 10th anniversary of Morrison\u2019s death<\/a>. During its seven year stint atop Morrison\u2019s headstone, fans took to covering the bust in graffiti, as well as chipping off parts souvenirs. A photo shared by French authorities following the bust\u2019s recovery showed it covered in writing and still missing its nose. <\/p>\n
