\n\tQuestlove<\/a> recently dropped by The Jennifer Hudson<\/a> Show<\/em>, sharing his reaction to finding out that Kendrick Lamar<\/a> paid homage to the Roots<\/a> in a music video for his monumental GNX<\/a><\/em> album, which released last year.<\/p>\n \n\tWhen discussing his influence on other artists, Hudson pointed out the scene from Lamar\u2019s \u201cSquabble Up\u201d video that recreates the set for the Roots\u2019 1999 track \u201cThe Next Movement,\u201d with both visuals sharing the same moss-green wall molding.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI was so shocked because the way that people told me \u2014 I woke up to 30 K. Dot texts,\u201d Questlove recalled. \u201cI thought, \u2018Oh no.\u2019 He just dissed us. I thought it was something else. And they were like, \u2018No, he paid tribute to y\u2019all in this video.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe Roots drummer said that he was surprised because the Philly band is \u201cubiquitous,\u201d but \u201cnot super mainstream, but we\u2019re niche, but we\u2019re not overexposed popular.\u201d He continued, \u201cIt\u2019s hard to tell where we fit in the scheme of things. It\u2019s an honor but it\u2019s also a surprise when you see people acknowledging you after all this time.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tIn reply, Hudson reminded the musician that his critically acclaimed band has been a \u201cblueprint to all artists and the music industry.\u201d<\/p>\n
