After a consortium led by Scooter Braun bought the rights to the masters for her first six albums in 2019, much to Swift\u2019s displeasure, she hatched a simple, if wildly labor-intensive plan: Make new Taylor\u2019s Versions of her catalog available, and then ask her massive fanbase to stream them instead of the originals. <\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/player.megaphone.fm\/WWO9140063628\" frameborder=\"no\" height=\"200\" scrolling=\"no\" width=\"100%\"><br \/>\n<\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p>No one had ever tried anything like it before, but fans complied by the millions. The strategy worked exactly as intended, devaluing the masters in the hands of anyone but Taylor Swift, even as the excitement around Taylor\u2019s Versions helped <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/taylor-swift-eras-tour-podcast-taylormania-1234774360\/\">expand <\/a>her already giant fanbase.
