\n\tLorde<\/a> is selling CD versions of her new album, Virgin<\/a><\/em>, that are crystal clear, recyclable, and not listenable \u2014 at least for some fans. Across social media, fans have been voicing issues with the clear CD, saying that it doesn\u2019t work on several different players.<\/p>\n

\n\tOne fan on TikTok<\/a> recorded a video that shows that their stereo can\u2019t read the Virgin<\/em> disc at all. \u201cSeems like older models with older sensors won\u2019t play it,\u201d they wrote in their caption. \u201cPretty disappointing, I know it was for an aesthetic but at least press it on normal CDs, too.\u201d Another TikTok user <\/a>shared their frustration in a video and showed how even their in-car CD player couldn\u2019t read the disc either. \u201cWhoever decided to design this is an idiot,\u201d the fan said. \u201cThe worst part is, this is the only version of the CD.\u201d This is true; Lorde<\/a>\u2018s website<\/a> only shows a sold-out listing for the clear Virgin<\/em> CD<\/a>, along with several vinyl variations.<\/p>\n

yeah so the Lorde CD doesn\u2019t work on CD players, particularly car ones and walkmans because the design ain\u2019t fit for purpose and Lorde doesn\u2019t offer any other CD options. \n\tReddit users shared the same experience about trying to play the CD in their car. \u201cTried to put the disc into my car CD player and usually when a CD is put up to it, it just pulls the CD in. But this CD wasn\u2019t even registering so I can\u2019t even get it inside the cd player\u2026. I\u2019m sooooo freaking bummed. Immediately tried a different cd to see if it was the player but it took the other cd and started playing so it\u2019s definitely the disk,\u201d one user wrote<\/a>. \n\tOne TikTok user really aimed to get to the bottom of the CD issues. In a video, the user explains the driving theory behind why the clear Virgin<\/em> has trouble playing across various machines: \u201cA certain kind of older technology that isn\u2019t in older CD players like mine is the reason why it\u2019s not working because in more expensive, newer CD players, it works.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tEarlier this week, Lorde teased Virgin<\/em> B-sides<\/a> and revealed that a few songs were kept off the official album. Hopefully, if there is a Virgin<\/em> deluxe in the future, the physical disc will provide a better listening experience for some fans.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
