{"id":38653,"date":"2025-07-03T14:46:06","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T14:46:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/03\/bbc-dropping-high-risk-performances-after-bob-vylan-controversy\/"},"modified":"2025-07-03T14:46:06","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T14:46:06","slug":"bbc-dropping-high-risk-performances-after-bob-vylan-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/03\/bbc-dropping-high-risk-performances-after-bob-vylan-controversy\/","title":{"rendered":"BBC Dropping &#8216;High Risk&#8217; Performances After Bob Vylan Controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe BBC has issued a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/mediacentre\/statements\/bob-vylan-glastonbury-live-appearance\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"> formal apology<\/a> following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/bob-vylan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bob-vylan\" data-tag=\"bob-vylan\">Bob Vylan<\/a>\u2018s controversial <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/glastonbury-2025-biggest-moments-olivia-rodrigo-lorde-1235375636\/\">Glastonbury performance<\/a>, in which they chanted \u201cFree, free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/palestine\/\" id=\"auto-tag_palestine\" data-tag=\"palestine\">Palestine<\/a>,\u201d and \u201cDeath, death to the IDF [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/israel\/\" id=\"auto-tag_israel\" data-tag=\"israel\">Israel<\/a> Defense Forces].\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cWe deeply regret that such offensive and deplorable behaviour appeared on the BBC and want to apologise to our viewers and listeners and in particular the Jewish community,\u201d the broadcaster said in a statement. \u201cWe are also unequivocal that there can be no place for antisemitism at, or on, the BBC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe BBC admitted that \u201cerrors\u201d were made \u201cboth in the lead-up to and during Bob Vylan\u2019s appearance,\u201d claiming the London alt-rap duo was \u201cdeemed high risk\u201d \u2014 alongside six other acts \u2014 following a risk assessment\u00a0that was applied to all performers. Despite this classification, the acts were allowed to perform with \u201cappropriate mitigations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cA decision was taken that compliance risks could be mitigated in real time on the live stream \u2014 through the use of language or content warnings \u2014 without the need for a delay,\u201d the broadcaster wrote. \u201cThis was clearly not the case. During the performance, the livestream was monitored in line with the agreed compliance protocols and a number of issues were escalated. Warnings appeared on the stream on two occasions and the editorial team took the decision not to cut the feed. This was an error.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe BBC went on to write that the Director-General instructed that the performance will not be featured in any future coverage, with no downloads offered via iPlayer or Sounds. The U.S. State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/bob-vylan-visa-revoked-state-department-1235375566\/\">revoked the duo\u2019s U.S. visas<\/a>\u00a0ahead of their fall tour, while they were removed from upcoming European festivals (England\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DLmltcjR5m7\/?hl=en\">Radar Festival\u00a0<\/a>and France\u2019s Kave Fest).
