A luxurious California estate that was previously owned by legendary Eagles<\/a> songwriter J.D. Souther has just sold, and pictures show an eye-popping property that offers a mix of luxury and privacy.<\/p>\n The\u00a05-bathroom, 6-bathroom, 6,068-square-foot wood, glass and stone residence in the hills outside of Los Angeles sold for $5,275,000 in a deal that closed on July 2, according to online property sites.<\/p>\n That final selling price breaks down to $869 per square foot and a monthly payment of $11,429.<\/p>\n According to the Robb Report<\/a>, Souther owned the estate from 1990 until 2002.<\/p>\n Souther bought the luxurious property from television producer Ilene Chaiken (The Handmaid’s Tale<\/em>) for $875,000, and he sold the residence for $1.975 million in 2002.<\/p>\n The acclaimed singer-songwriter’s former nature retreat went on the market for $5.9 million in April and almost immediately received an offer. The property went into contingency status on May 13.<\/p>\n Highlights of the stunning property include:<\/p>\n The spectacular estate offers jaw-dropping views of nature in a very private setting that seems far from L.A., but is just minutes away.<\/p>\n Souther was a celebrated singer-songwriter in his own right, but he’s best remembered for the songs he wrote for other artists.<\/p>\n After playing with his friend\u00a0Glenn Frey<\/a>\u00a0in an early\u00a0country-rock duo called\u00a0Longbranch Pennywhistle<\/a>,\u00a0Souther went on to help write some of the Eagles’ biggest hits, including “Best of My Love,” “New Kid in Town,” “How Long,” “Heartache Tonight” and more.<\/p>\n He also worked extensively with Linda Ronstadt<\/a>. He\u00a0co-produced her 1973 album\u00a0Don’t Cry Now<\/em>\u00a0and wrote several songs in her catalog, including her 1974 single, “Faithless Love.”<\/p>\n Souther and Ronstadt also recorded several duets, including “Hearts Against the Wind,” which appeared in the 1980 John Travolta film\u00a0Urban Cowboy<\/em>.<\/p>\n George Strait<\/a>, James Taylor,\u00a0the Chicks<\/a>,\u00a0Bonnie Raitt<\/a>\u00a0and more are also among the many artists who recorded Souther’s songs.<\/p>\n Souther also had a successful recording career of his own. He scored a No. 1 Adult Contemporary solo hit with 1979’s “You’re Only Lonely,” and followed it up with “Her Town Too,” a duet with James Taylor that reached No. 5 in Adult Contemporary and No. 11 on the all-genre\u00a0Billboard<\/em>\u00a0Hot 100 in 1980.<\/p>\n The singer-songwriter was also an actor, playing the role of record executive Watty White in the country music-themed series\u00a0Nashville<\/em>.<\/p>\n The Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted Souther in 2013, and he earned two Grammy nominations over the course of his career.<\/p>\n J.D. Souther died<\/a> in September of 2024 at the age of 78.
