\n\tJay Som<\/a> is ready to bring us back into her world, or rejoin us in ours. On Oct. 10, the musician will share the full-length LP Belong <\/em>as her first album in six years. During her absence, the singer-songwriter and producer worked behind the scenes as a collaborator with Lucy Dacus, Troye Sivan, Boygenius<\/a>, and more, but largely kept her distance from her position as a leading character in indie rock. Now, Jay Som<\/a> is back to reclaim her place with \u201cA Million Reasons Why\u201d and \u201cFloat,\u201d her collaboration with Jimmy Eat World\u2019s Jim Adkins. <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cThis song is about desperately trying to hold on to past versions of yourself for self preservation,\u201d the artist born Melina Duterte said of \u201cFloat.\u201d \u201cThe fear of the unknown is so overwhelming that sometimes the best solution is to sit with it instead of fighting or running from it.\u201d The record arrives alongside an official music video directed by Nina Ljeti that inadvertently pays homage to Jimmy Eat World\u2019s \u201cThe Middle.\u201d <\/p>\n \n\t\u201cMelina is an absolute professional in all aspects of music creation,\u201d Adkins said. \u201cI am honored she had space in her vision for me to contribute. And it was a lot of fun to work on.\u201d<\/p>\n
