It was written by Swedish alternative group Teddybears and first appeared on their 2000 album <i>Rock\u2019n\u2019Roll Highschool.<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Its rebellious nature has inspired a wide range of artists to cover it, but the 2006 version featuring Iggy along with Teddybears (from the patched-together album <i>Soft Machine<\/i>, designed to introduce the group to the American market) has the highest-profile. Cadillac used it in a commercial the following year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Watch Iggy Pop and Teddybears\u2019 \u2018Punkrocker\u2019 Video<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is always that high level of energy even though the gear we perform our music on shifts, and tempos will vary,\u201d Teddybears member Joakim \u00c5hlund told <i><a href=\"https:\/\/riffmagazine.com\/features\/teddybears-keeping-their-heads\/\" target=\"_blank\">Riff<\/a><\/i> in 2011.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Why Teddybears Wanted Iggy Pop to Sing &#8216;Punkrocker&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Referring to their range of collaborations, including Kylie Minogue, Kesha and Britney Spears, he added: We always look for unique voices that touch us in a strong way, be it the raspy bass of Mad Cobra, the sweet soulful falsetto of Cee Lo Green or the deep drawl of Iggy Pop.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/dontforgetthesongs365.wordpress.com\/2012\/03\/24\/teddybears-punkrocker-feat-iggy-pop\/\" target=\"_blank\">separate interview<\/a> \u00c5hlund admitted working with Iggy had been \u201cpretty heavy,\u201d explaining: \u201cAll those people are our heroes\u2026 we never would\u2019ve dared to dream.
