Kelsea Ballerini<\/a>\u00a0has been taking some time off lately \u2014 she just finished a headlining tour in April \u2014 but when Austin City Limits<\/em> calls and asks you to play their TV show, it’s hard to say no.<\/p>\n So,\u00a0Ballerini packed her boots and her sparkliest dress and flew to Texas’ capital city to make her debut in an episode filmed for the show’s upcoming 51st season.<\/p>\n Read More<\/em>: 19 Country Songs for Your Girls’ Night Out Playlist<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n She was warm, she was authentic, she was human and she was gracious \u2014 she\u00a0was all that you’d expect a\u00a0recently-nominated ACM Entertainer of the Year<\/a>\u00a0to be.<\/p>\n Thursday night’s (July 10) set included all of\u00a0Ballerini’s eras, from her first album (a beautifully vocal version of “Peter Pan”) to now (“Cowboys Cry Too,” except without Noah Kahan).<\/p>\n She brought sass with “Hole in the Bottle” and a run of her best breakup songs, smiling as she talked about the sweet chapter she’s in now and how much she loves love.<\/p>\n She also paused for a sorrowful\u00a0moment to talk about the pain the state of Texas is feeling currently,\u00a0just a week removed from catastrophic Fourth of July flooding<\/a> that left more than\u00a0150\u00a0people dead, including 8 and 9-year-old little girls from Camp Mystic.<\/p>\n But those lucky enough to be in the room didn’t carry that grief home, even with Ballerini closing her set with the heart-wrenching divorce song “Penthouse<\/a>.” That song\u00a0has since become a belt-it-out\u00a0anthem during Ballerini’s live shows, including this one \u2014 it will make your face hurt from smiling, not sobbing.<\/p>\n The country star\u00a0released her\u00a0Patterns<\/em>\u00a0album last fall. The show is the longest-running music series in America. It airs weekly on PBS and has since 1974.<\/p>\n Past country performers include (it’s a much longer list): Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Kacey Musgraves, Garth Brooks, Miranda Lambert, Lyle Lovett, Rosanne Cash, Trisha Yearwood, John Prine … so many of the best.<\/p>\n Kelsea Ballerini flew to Texas during her summer break to make her debut on the Austin City Limits<\/em> television stage on Thursday, July 10.
