\n\tIf you\u2019re a fan of Jeff Tweedy<\/a>, you know that he writes a lot of songs. Not just in the sense that he\u2019s spent more than 30 years leading Wilco<\/a> through one of the most rewarding and varied catalogs in American music, although that\u2019s also true. On the most literal level, Tweedy generally writes at least one song every day. \u201cI sincerely feel a need to have that in my life,\u201d he told Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> in 2020, the year that he published a great book<\/a> about this daily practice. \u201cI feel better when I do it, and I try not to miss days. It\u2019s like working out or something, almost.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAll that songwriting has left Tweedy with enough strong material for a new triple album, Twilight Override<\/em>, out Sept. 26 via Wilco\u2019s own dBpm Records. You read that right \u2014\u00a0three discs, 30 songs total. This is his first solo release since 2020\u2019s Love Is the King<\/a><\/em>, which means this album represents something like the top 1.6 percent of all the songs he\u2019s written in the last five years. (Please don\u2019t check that math.) The cr\u00e8me de la cr\u00e8me, if you will.<\/p>\n \n\tAlong with today\u2019s announcement, Tweedy has released four excellent new songs to help you get a handle on all this music. \u201cOne Tiny Flower,\u201d<\/a> the first song on disc one, is a meditative folk song with a nervous energy pushing it forward. \u201cOut in the Dark,\u201d<\/a> from disc two, is an easygoing amble in brighter hues, with some fun burbling studio noises as the song goes on. \u201cStray Cats in Spain,\u201d<\/a> from disc three, is a plunge into headier waters, with swirling strings and no audible percussion \u2014 just beautiful stuff. And \u201cEnough,\u201d <\/a>which is both the final track on the album and its \u201cradio single,\u201d is an upbeat, catchy burst of folk-rock sunshine, complete with a sweet electric guitar solo. Right away, just from these songs, it\u2019s clear that Twilight Override<\/em> is some top-shelf Tweedy, and they make you want to hear more. You can tell that he is on fire right now, creatively speaking.\u00a0<\/p>\n
