\n\tCountry star Ronnie McDowell<\/a> is scheduled to undergo surgery weeks after suffering a stroke during a performance at the Summer Solstice Music Festival. His son, Tyler McDowell, tells Rolling Stone<\/em> that the 75-year-old singer will have a carotid endarterectomy on July 22 to remove plaque buildup from an artery.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cOne overnight stay, and God willing, he\u2019ll be back at it in no time,\u201d Tyler tells Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cWe\u2019re actually off to Texas this weekend for two shows before the surgery. I\u2019m nervous, but the doctor gave him the green light\u2014so long as he skips the Dirty Dancing <\/em>moves. Then again, anyone who\u2019s ever seen a Ronnie McDowell show knows, staying in a \u2018circle\u2019 ain\u2019t really his thing.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tFans expressed their concern for McDowell \u2014 known for songs \u201cOlder Women,\u201d \u201cThe King Is Gone,\u201d and \u201cBad Reputation\u201d \u2014 after he was seen slurring his words<\/a> onstage during a show at the Summer Solstice Music Festival in Oley. He was then hospitalized and discharged following the medical scare.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cI\u2019d like to thank everyone for their support during this time of dealing with a stroke, and for all the wonderful cards, thoughts, and prayers from all across America and around the world,\u201d McDowell tells Rolling Stone<\/em> Thursday. \u201cTuesday morning at Vanderbilt Hospital, they\u2019re going to take the plaque out of my neck, and I can\u2019t wait to get back to my P90X!! Thanks again to everyone. Love y\u2019all.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tMcDowell has been accompanied by his son Tyler, throughout his medical recovery. In a statement to Rolling Stone<\/em>, Tyler praised his father\u2019s strength and credited him for \u201cshowing me how to chase [my dreams].\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cHe\u2019s taught me everything from riding a bike to entertaining a crowd\u2014and most of all, how to try and be a good man.
