Blige<\/a> and her longtime friend and stylist Misa Hylton appears lost now that the two are facing off in an explosive legal battle over the music and management of Harlem rapper Vado.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn new filings obtained by <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>, Blige is blasting Hylton\u2019s contract interference claims against her, calling them \u201cblatantly frivolous\u201d and even \u201cstunning.\u201d Blige\u2019s new paperwork, filed late Monday, is asking a judge to not only dismiss Hylton\u2019s lawsuit outright but also impose financial sanctions on Hylton and her lawyer for pursuing the \u201cmeritless\u201d litigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAccording to Blige and her lawyers, Hylton\u2019s company, M.I.S.A. Management, isn\u2019t a real corporation, and Hylton isn\u2019t a licensed talent agent, as required by law. They say Hylton, who <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sean-diddy-combs-home-raid-video-footage-sons-1234998265\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sean-diddy-combs-home-raid-video-footage-sons-1234998265\/\">shares son Justin Combs<\/a> with Bad Boy Records founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/sean-combs\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sean-combs\" data-tag=\"sean-combs\">Sean Combs<\/a>, filed her lawsuit with the \u201csole purpose of harassing and causing malicious injury to [Blige] based on Hylton\u2019s personal animus towards Ms. Blige.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHylton, who dated Combs in 1992 when they all worked together on promotion of Blige\u2019s hit album <em>What\u2019s the 411?<\/em>, filed her underlying lawsuit in April. In the 18-page complaint, she accused Blige of \u201cattempting to coerce\u201d Vado into terminating his talent and management contract with Hylton so he could \u201cjump ship\u201d to Blige and her company, Beautiful Life Productions, where he also had a recording agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHylton alleged Blige and her representatives \u201cintentionally excluded\u201d her from meetings with Vado that were held in \u201cintimate and inappropriate\u201d settings such as \u201clate night yacht outings\u201d and hotel rooms. She said the defendants \u201cpurposefully sabotaged\u201d her relationship with the rapper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tVado, named in the lawsuit as Teeyon Winfree, also is suing Blige for allegedly refusing to release his music. He claims <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/mary-j-blige-my-life-documentary-1188839\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/mary-j-blige-my-life-documentary-1188839\/\">the Grammy winner<\/a> and her company owe him at least $5 million for breach of contract and $5 million for intentional infliction of emotional distress.<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ editors-pick-module lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tShortly after Hylton and Winfree sued, Blige\u2019s lawyers, including high-profile music industry litigator Lisa Moore, sent a letter to plaintiffs demanding \u201cimmediate withdrawal\u201d of the claims. The lawyers said a review of government websites found that Hylton\u2019s company is not a \u201cduly organized New York Corporation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201c[M.I.S.A. Management] will not be able to prove that it has a valid agreement sufficient to satisfy the first element of tortious interference with contract claim, and you and plaintiffs were aware, or should have been aware, of this before filing this baseless claim,\u201d they wrote. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe letter also said Winfree\u2019s own actions caused delay in the release of his music. They alleged the artist failed to deliver marketable music because \u201cnone of the consents and clearances were delivered despite multiple requests.\u201d They further claimed Hylton already has been paid more than she was owed because she allegedly took a commission on more than $300,000 already paid to Winfree that was recoupable under his recording contract.
