On Thursday, the m\u00fasica mexicana star released his sophomore LP, <em>Cristian<\/em>, which hears him step into different sounds, including rap and banda.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cWith this album, we decided to go for sounds that people aren\u2019t super familiar with when it comes to me,\u201d he tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cI just feel like everyone sounds the same now. Same trumpets, same trombones, same guitars, and they all talk about the same stuff. I don\u2019t like that kind of music. Now everybody wants to jump on the same wave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe tapped Net\u00f3n Vega for \u201cFlota,\u201d an accordion-backed banda song; gave rapping a chance with the help of Santa Fe Klan and Mexican rap icons La Santa Grifa; and even references his rapid ascent (and breakthrough hit) \u201cDijeron Que No La Iba Lograr\u201d on \u201cLa Cima.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tPacas says <em>Cristian <\/em>is the LP he has always wanted to make, and it feels more aligned with him as an artist after feeling that he rushed his debut, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-latin\/chino-pacas-drake-collab-modo-capone-tres-letras-1235140568\/\">Que Sigan Llegando Las Pacas<\/a><\/em>, featuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-latin\/chino-pacas-drake-collab-modo-capone-tres-letras-1235140568\/\">Drake<\/a>. \u201c<em>Que Sigan<\/em> felt more forced. The deadlines were tighter,\u201d he says. \u201cWith this one, we gave ourselves more freedom and worked smarter in the studio. We\u2019re more thoughtful now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWith his first two albums out, he\u2019s already thinking about what comes next. He promises he has another \u201calbum ready, dedicated to the ladies,\u201d and a second volume to his <em>Que Sigan<\/em> LP. \u201cI have like 15 to 20 songs sitting in the vault,\u201d he says. \u201cWe\u2019re now doing projects the way we want to.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFrom his apartment in Los Angeles, Pacas broke down his favorite songs off the new album:<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"chamaquito\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\t\u201c<strong>Chamaquit<\/strong>o\u201d\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tI made it myself, and it\u2019s actually track number one on the album. Honestly, it\u2019s fire. I had it written since 2022, but I never finished it. It was just sitting there. It\u2019s not 100 percent about me, but it\u2019s a song I really liked and wrote myself, and I think it\u2019s a good one. I don\u2019t like to say \u201cfans,\u201d but I think they\u2019ll be excited to hear it. We\u2019re going back to what we did in the start, which is using tuba, which is a sound that people aren\u2019t really using anymore. Not many artists like that style, but I do. I have a friend from Monterrey who my brother discovered, Jos\u00e9 Alejandro Arroyo. He\u2019s a kid our age, and he wrote the whole song. I helped tweak a few lines and recorded it, but the lyrics are 100 percent his.\u00a0 He\u2019s got authenticity. No one knows him yet, so we\u2019ll see how this goes. I love discovering talent. Just the other day he sent us 10 new songs \u2014 corridos, trap, everything. He made them in like a week. What\u2019s wild too is that just yesterday, we got Oscar Mayd\u00f3n to record on it, and he ended up on the record. It was fate, you know? The song had to come out. It\u2019s called \u201cAnoche,\u201d and we\u2019ll see how it does. I went to record with him in L.A. That\u2019s also where we shot the video. You\u2019ll see the vibes are very California. We\u2019re repping Guanajuato and showing love to California, too. It\u2019s a place that\u2019s shown us a lot of love and helped us grow. Santa Fe is my boy. It was great, and it\u2019s good for the culture too. When I met Junior H, he told me never to put my flag down \u2014 and I carry that in my lyrics. With this song and with Santa Fe, we\u2019re showing off where we\u2019re from. I feel like these songs I\u2019m putting out now are more thoughtful, made from the heart.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"llevarte-feat-la-santa-grifa\" class=\"heading larva \/\/   lrv-a-font-primary-l   \">\n\t\t<strong>\u201cLlevarte\u201d feat. La Santa Grifa<\/strong>\t<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThat track is on another level. I\u2019ve been a fan of Santa Grifa since I was a kid \u2014 they\u2019re one of the best rap groups in Mexico. Some people know that, some don\u2019t. But man, when I worked with him, he had <em>seven<\/em> vocal tracks and I only had three. He\u2019s been rapping for years, and honestly, he stole the show. He\u2019s super creative. I love learning, and it was a great experience. We wanted to make an insane video, but he doesn\u2019t have a visa. God knows why things happen.
