Many good times have been had at Corporation, and as an alternative venue, I can\u2019t massively fault it. It\u2019s gritty, it\u2019s got a variety of stage sizes and it\u2019s only a 20-minute walk from station. That\u2019s why I spent my Tuesday night there, seeing <\/span>Wednesday 13 <\/span><\/b>on his most recent UK tour, along with <\/span>Nocturnal Affair <\/span><\/b>and <\/span>Fearless Vampire Killers<\/span><\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n The night was so eager to begin, that I got into Corp halfway through <\/span>Nocturnal Affair\u2019s <\/span><\/b>set. Not knowing their songs, it would\u2019ve been easy for me to feel a little lost. Luckily, they were really good hype-men.<\/span><\/p>\n Despite me being towards the back, and a little late to the party, they made it easy to let go and have fun. They were full of energy, interacting with the crowd and each other. Coming all the way from Las Vegas, they brought along a flashy, jaw-dropping show with the grand finale of covering <\/span>Haddaway\u2019s <\/span><\/b>What Is Love. <\/span><\/i>I never thought I would see that played live, let alone with two men flipping their hair so synchronised that the frontman was bordered by two perfect spirals. It persuaded me to listen to more, and I\u2019ll be keeping my eye out to see them again.<\/span><\/p>\n To be completely transparent, <\/span>Fearless Vampire Killers <\/span><\/b>is the band I\u2019ve been obsessed with since my pre-teens. This means I\u2019ll forgive them for being 15 minutes late to the stage, and possibly then cutting songs out of the set. The run-time said 8, but it was quarter past when we were graced with their tunes. It was a surprising setlist, forgetting well-known singles for tracks such as <\/span>Necromania, Say What you Want from Me <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Always Forgive. <\/span><\/i>I suspect if tracks were removed to save time, they would\u2019ve been the newer releases anyway, like <\/span>Time Misunderstood <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Back From the Void<\/span><\/i>. I at least expected <\/span>Something Terminal! <\/span><\/i>I had spent some time learning them to be ready\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n Fangirl rants aside. If <\/span>FVK <\/span><\/b>weren\u2019t great artists and performers, I wouldn\u2019t have stuck around for 13 years. You can always expect high-energy performances from <\/span>Fearless Vampire Killers<\/span><\/b>. In fact, chaos might the world. Bums wiggling in your face, bassists flying around, and at a regular show (but not this one) fans heckling.<\/span><\/p>\n Kier <\/span><\/b>and <\/span>Laurence <\/span><\/b>are both great frontmen, that make sure that the crowd is involved with each song. Singing along, raising their hands (with closed fists) and affirmations, like <\/span>\u201cYou are the steel city, you are made of steel, come on!\u201d. <\/span><\/i>I always look forward to seeing them again. I should be grateful that after so long, they\u2019re still able to surprise me.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Now, the main event. Mr <\/span>Wednesday 13<\/span><\/b>. I hadn\u2019t listened to him before, but I am hooked now. A classic, old-school goth metal artist. He reminded me of <\/span>Rob Zombie<\/span><\/b>, or <\/span>Alice Cooper<\/span><\/b> with his cool presence, yet dynamic performance.<\/span><\/p>\n He played his originals, such as <\/span>Look What the Bat Dragged In, In Misery <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>I Walked With a Zombie<\/span><\/i>. He treated his fans to <\/span>Summertime Suicide <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Nowhere<\/span><\/i> by <\/span>Murderdolls,<\/span><\/b> and <\/span>197666 <\/span><\/i>and<\/span> I Love to Say Fuck, <\/span><\/i>by <\/span>Frankenstein Drag Queens from Planet 13<\/span><\/b>. I didn\u2019t realise he was part of these bands, but I think it\u2019s a lot of fun that he\u2019s mixed his projects together to give his fans as much of a good time as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n He had us raising our horns up and chanting along and declaring that we should \u201cmake some noise for Ozzy<\/strong>!\u201d following the Prince of Darkness\u2019 death last week. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>Again, even from the back, I really enjoyed it. Although, apart from a few crazy individuals, I did feel the crowd weren\u2019t as involved as they could be. Each artist had their work cut out, and they did well. I personally had a great night and would see all three bands again. Hopefully soon, too. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
