\n\tThe Dare<\/a> took some time out of his Lollapalooza weekend to sit down with Rolling Stone<\/em> for \u201cSong Shuffle,\u201d which uncovered the producer and DJ\u2019s love for Kacey Musgraves<\/a> and his thoughts on how Justin Bieber<\/a> could have improved his new album, SWAG<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter hitting shuffle on his playlist, the first song to pop up was Musgraves\u2019 \u201cVelvet Elvis.\u201d While calling Musgraves\u2019 Grammy-winning LP \u201cone of the greatest albums of all time,\u201d The Dare admits that the Presley-referencing track isn\u2019t his favorite.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c[It\u2019s] a very playful and slightly more dancey one, I suppose,\u201d he says. \u201cI used to listen to it, driving around in\u00a0the Pacific Northwest a little bit, and I feel like it was kind of a gateway drug into country music for me a little bit. I think my favorite on\u00a0Golden Hour<\/em>\u00a0is \u2018Mother\u2019 or \u2018Love Is a Wild Thing.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe adds, \u201cI love\u00a0the\u00a0whole record. I think it\u2019s pretty incredible front to back.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThen came \u201c405\u201d from the new Bieber record<\/a>, which he thinks \u201ccould have done with a little bit of editing.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI actually just listened to\u00a0the\u00a0album on a flight back from Japan last week in full. I fell asleep at some point during it. It could have been\u00a0the\u00a0jet lag. It could have been\u00a0the\u00a0soothing, soulful sounds of\u00a0SWAG<\/em>,\u201d he says. \u201cOr some combination. But I enjoyed some of\u00a0the\u00a0first half, I liked\u00a0the\u00a0singles \u2018Daisies\u2019 and \u2018Yukon.\u2019 But it\u2019s a really long album, and unless records sort of have a conceptual edge to\u00a0them, I typically don\u2019t love albums that are over 12 to 14 songs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to The Dare, the sweet spot for an album is anywhere between nine and 14 tracks. \u201cI think\u00a0the\u00a0run time is under forty minutes. I don\u2019t\u00a0think the\u00a0actual run time is that long on\u00a0SWAG<\/em>, I think it\u2019s pretty short, just lots of tracks.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Dare \u2014 who is set to release his EP Freakquencies: Vol. 1 later this month \u2014\u00a0also tapped through songs by Royal Headache, Dream Caster, and Jarvis Cocker, before opening up about working with PinkPantheress on her song, \u201cStateside.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cVicky is awesome. We have good banter. Working with her is very fun and easy.\u00a0There felt like a lot of like nerves flying around\u00a0the\u00a0first day\u2026 you know\u00a0the\u00a0good kind where you\u2019re productive and excited to just be in\u00a0the room just working on stuff with somebody,\u201d The Dare says. \u201cWe just became pen pals sort of, and got\u00a0the\u00a0song finished while I was on tour in\u00a0the\u00a0U.S\u2026 She\u2019s\u00a0the\u00a0best.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
