After exploring mid-century countrypolitan on his debut <em>Mr. Jukebox <\/em>and Nineties roadhouse country on <em>Neon Blue<\/em>, the singer-songwriter and walking country music encyclopedia is returning with <em>All Hat<\/em>, his textured take on Western swing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe record was produced by Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel and features 11 songs, 10 of them originals, recorded at Benson\u2019s studio in Austin, Texas (Hedley co-wrote one track with Brennen Leigh). To kick off the record, Hedley is premiering \u201cFresh Hot Biscuits,\u201d which he wrote the night before it was recorded.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Joshua Hedley - Fresh Hot Biscuits [Official Music Video]\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/a4aNiJKK66E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIf you know Western Swing music then you know it\u2019s heavily rooted in dance culture,\u201d Hedley tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cAs much as people wanted to foxtrot or waltz they still wanted to hear a good fiddle breakdown too. Thats really the inspiration behind this song; or behind the whole record really. You make a Western Swing album\u2026you put a waltz on it, you put a polka on it, a two-step, a Charleston, a blues, whatever, but you damn sure better put a breakdown on it, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tLike <em>Neon Blue<\/em>, <em>All Hat<\/em> is a record meant to be heard and experienced live in a dancehall; It is a different kind of party record.\u00a0\u201cThat\u2019s what people did back then when they had a night on the town, they went out to the dancehall or the ballroom or whatever they had in the area and they danced to live music,\u201d says Hedley. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIn Texas a lot of that evolved out of square dances where you\u2019d sometimes just have a fiddler and a caller. But you know, that carried over into the Big Band era too.
