When she\u2019s not making indie-folk with Florist<\/a>, Emily A. Sprague<\/a> records ambient albums, and she has a new one on the way. Cloud Time<\/em><\/a> is out October 10 (via Rvng Intl.<\/a>). Below, watch the video for the new album\u2019s opening track, \u201cTokyo 1.\u201d<\/p>\n Sprague recorded her new album while she was on tour in Japan<\/a> last year. \u201cWhen I began preparing for the tour, I couldn\u2019t shake a sense that the invitation to Japan was more about opening myself up to this new place instead of bringing something into it tightly under my control,\u201d Sprague reflected. \u201cImprovisation has always been such a pillar in my music practice, and I really wanted to meet the country, spaces, and people through that process.\u201d<\/p>\n Cloud Time<\/em> is a distillation of more than eight hours of material that Sprague recorded. For the album, Sprague was inspired by the Japanese environmental music philosophy kanky\u014d ongaku<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n Cloud Time<\/em> is Sprague\u2019s first solo album since 2020\u2019s Hill, Flower, Fog<\/em><\/a>.
