Reba McEntire<\/a> opened up about her former stepson, Brandon Blackstock<\/a>, before he died in early August.<\/p>\n McEntire was married to Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, for 26 years before they split in 2015.<\/p>\n In an interview with Entertainment Tonight<\/em> in 2021, she said she still considered Blackstock “my blood” (quote via People<\/em><\/a>).<\/p>\n \u201cBrandon\u2019s been my son forever it seems,\u201d McEntire said in\u00a0October 2021, years after her divorce from Narvel. \u201cAlthough he\u2019s my stepson, I still love him like he\u2019s my total \u2014 my blood.”<\/p>\n McEntire’s bond with both Blackstock and his ex-wife, Kelly Clarkson, remained unchanged after they divorced, she says.<\/p>\n \u201cKelly and I do talk, we text and I love them both, and so I can’t play favorites because I’ve been a friend of Kelly for a long time,” McEntire told ET.<\/i><\/p>\n Blackstock was a well-known player in Nashville’s music scene.<\/p>\n Blackstock followed in his father’s footsteps<\/a>, becoming a high-powered manager whose clients included not only Clarkson, but also Blake Shelton<\/a>, Rascal Flatts<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n Blackstock and Clarkson married in October of 2013. She filed for divorce in June of 2020, and they reached a divorce settlement in March of 2022.<\/p>\n Blackstock battled cancer in the last three years of his life. He died<\/a> on Thursday (Aug. 7) at the age of 48.<\/p>\n It’s not clear if Clarkson and Blackstock were friends after they divorced.<\/p>\n However, they\u00a0shared two children\u00a0\u2014 daughter River Rose, 10, and son Remington Alexander, 8\u00a0\u2014 and were committed to co-parenting.<\/p>\n Clarkson revealed on Wednesday (Aug. 6) that she was postponing the dates<\/a> for her Las Vegas residency as he battled an unspecified illness.<\/p>\n \u201cUnfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas. While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children\u2019s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n \u201cI am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness, and understanding,” Clarkson continued.<\/p>\n Blackstock’s death came after Clarkson had sparked online speculation by missing a number of tapings of her daily talk show in 2025.<\/p>\n Funeral plans for Brandon Blackstock are to be announced.<\/p>\n Kelly Clarkson was the winner of the first season of American Idol<\/em> in 2002.
