In a new interview with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2025\/aug\/15\/john-fogerty-creedence-clearwater-revival-contracts-controlling-catalogue\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Guardian<\/em><\/a>, Fogerty said he could handle having MAGA believers as fans of his music.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/creedence-clearwater-revival-fortunate-son\/\">Why John Fogerty Still Isn\u2019t Satisfied With \u2018Fortunate Son\u2019<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Describing Trump as \u201calmost a direct descendant\u201d of Nixon, \u201cskipping the years since 1974,\u201d the musician continued: \u201cOf course, Mr Trump is doing everything on steroids compared to Nixon. I think Nixon did have some shame. I don\u2019t get that sense these days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s certainly no secret about a song like \u2018Fortunate Son\u2019 or \u2018Who\u2019ll Stop the Rain.\u2019 You know what my worldview must be.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Watch Creedence Clearwater Revival\u2019s Video for \u2018Fortunate Son\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I don\u2019t hold fans responsible for the activities of Mr. Trump. I wish everyone was a little bit more towards the middle. The older you get, you\u2019re just sorry that everything\u2019s so kneejerk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fogerty is poised to release <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/john-fogerty-legacy-album\/\"><em>Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years<\/em><\/a>, an album of modern-day reconstructions of classic tracks. The songwriter said it had been an opportunity to reconnect with the music he\u2019d written when he was young.<\/p>\n<p>Citing the example of 1969\u2019s \u201cProud Mary,\u201d Fogerty explained: \u201cThere was what they call an epiphany. The track sounded really stunning [but] the lead vocal paled by comparison.<\/p>\n<h3>What John Fogerty Learned From Re-recording His Own Songs<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cAnd it finally dawned on me: \u2018John, when you were doing this way back when, it was life or death for you.\u2019 I came from a state of, if not poverty, then the lower economic rungs. It was very important and necessary to be great, as great as whatever was in me.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd at that point I felt as if I was going through a portal, and really trying to be that person again.
