The title is a response to Budweiser\u2019s \u201cThis Bud\u2019s For You\u201d slogan, and the song references Pepsi, Coke, Miller, Budweiser\u2019s canine mascot Spuds MacKenzie, and Coca-Cola\u2019s \u201cThe Real Thing\u201d slogan.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Neil Young, This Note\u2019s For You \/ Rockin In the Free World Encore, Budweiser Stage, Toronto 08172025\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yssCcULR3Ic?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tHe took the mockery to grandiose new heights by casting Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson impersonators for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KSSvzCNBvlQ&amp;list=RDKSSvzCNBvlQ&amp;start_radio=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">\u201cThis Note\u2019s For You\u201d video,<\/a> and spoofing recent ad campaigns by Michelob, Budweiser, and Calvin Klein.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tMTV refused to air it. \u201cI must admit I feel awkward defending our decision because I happen to think it\u2019s a fantastic video,\u201d MTV\/VH1 General Manager <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/archives\/la-xpm-1988-07-10-ca-9105-story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Lee Masters told <em>The Los Angeles Times<\/em>.<\/a> \u201cEveryone in Programming loved it \u2013 it\u2019s spectacular and it\u2019s very funny. But we had two corporate problems: First, our attorneys advised us against playing it because its use of likenesses of Michael Jackson and Spuds MacKenzie could leave us open to trademark infringement charges. Since then, Warner Records\u2019 legal department has offered to indemnify us against any claims, but our attorneys still felt that might not be enough protection.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWith all due respect to MTV, this was absolute bullshit. \u201cWeird Al\u201d Yankovic has been creating videos much like \u201cThis Note\u2019s For You\u201d for well over 40 years, since parodies enjoy strong constitutional protections. The Supreme Court <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1993\/92-1292\" target=\"_blank\">has affirmed this<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.oyez.org\/cases\/1987\/86-1278\" target=\"_blank\">many times.<\/a> There\u2019s no chance the MTV suits and their attorneys weren\u2019t aware of this.<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ editors-pick-module lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tYoung\u2019s longtime manager, Elliot Roberts, wrote the network a furious open letter in response to the ban. \u201cMTV, you spineless twerps,\u201d he wrote. \u201cYou refuse to play \u2018This Note\u2019s for You\u2019 because you\u2019re afraid to offend your sponsors. What does the \u2018M\u2019 in MTV stand for: music or money? But he also debuted \u201cSilver Eagle\u201d Friday evening at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. <span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\">It\u2019s the first song he\u2019s played from his new LP,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-album-reviews\/neil-young-and-the-chrome-hearts-talkin-to-the-trees-1235364458\/\"><em>Talkin\u2019 To The Trees.<\/em><\/a><\/span> He also broke out \u201cMr. Soul,\u201d \u201cThe Loner,\u201d \u201cOhio,\u201d and \u201cTumblweed\u201d at the past few gigs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe tour resumes Tuesday night with a second show at the Budweiser Stage.
