Ever wondered what goes on backstage in Vince Gill<\/a>‘s dressing room before a show?\u00a0Thanks to\u00a0Russell Dickerson<\/a>, we now have a firsthand account.<\/p>\n Dickerson stopped by Taste of Country Nights<\/em><\/a>\u00a0this week to chat about his new album, Famous Back Home<\/em>,\u00a0on which he has a collaboration with Gill called “Never Leave<\/a>.”<\/p>\n So, naturally, we had to ask him for some insider information on the Country Music Hall of Famer.<\/p>\n “I just sang with him [Gill] at the\u00a0Opry<\/a>\u00a0last night actually,” the “Happen\u00a0to Me” singer says.<\/p>\n They even hung out backstage beforehand. Dickerson admits he was nervous to walk into Gill’s Opry dressing room, as he was “A little like, ‘Oh, what do we talk about?'” but he\u00a0adds that Gill was “super chill and super funny.”<\/p>\n “I\u00a0walked over to his dressing room and we ran over the song a little bit.”<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Dickerson\u00a0explains that he only sang the harmonies, not even the actual words, but that in itself was enough to make a core memory for him.<\/p>\n “He was\u00a0literally just singing the harmonies, and it was angelic, like, his voice is anointing,” he says of Gill.<\/p>\n So even a seasoned pro like Gill \u2014 who has performed thousands of times \u2014 needs to practice before taking the stage.<\/p>\n Keep in mind this is 18 years after Gill\u00a0was\u00a0inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame<\/a>\u00a0(2007), and\u00a0he is still going as hard as he once did and taking each and every performance just as seriously as when he was an opening act way back when.<\/p>\n A lesson to anyone who wants to be at the top of their craft: Never take your foot off the gas and always be early, ready and prepared, no matter what.<\/p>\n He sure is. The two tied the knot back in 2000.<\/p>\n Vince Gill started his solo career in Nashville in the early 1980s. Since then, he has recorded more than 20 studio albums, charted more than 40 singles on the Billboard<\/em> Hot Country Songs chart and sold more than 26 million albums. When it comes to winning awards, Gill is no slouch, either \u2014 he has won 22 Grammys and 18 CMAs lifetime. In 2007, Gill was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
