Not exactly, the director claims in the new trailer for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/megadoc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_megadoc\" data-tag=\"megadoc\">Megadoc<\/a><\/em>, Mike Figgis\u2019 behind-the-scenes documentary on the tumultuous making of Coppola\u2019s 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv-movies\/tv-movie-reviews\/megalopolis-review-francis-ford-coppola-1235021815\/\">film<\/a> <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/megalopolis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_megalopolis\" data-tag=\"megalopolis\">Megalopolis<\/a><\/em>: \u201cI\u2019m <em>confronting<\/em> chaos.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"MEGADOC | Official Trailer | Utopia\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DzcxY4fpyh0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tCoppola spent $120 million of his own money on <em>Megalopolis<\/em>, a script he\u2019d been working on for decades, and recruited stars including Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/aubrey-plaza\/\" id=\"auto-tag_aubrey-plaza\" data-tag=\"aubrey-plaza\">Aubrey Plaza<\/a>, Nathalie Emmanuel, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/shia-labeouf\/\" id=\"auto-tag_shia-labeouf\" data-tag=\"shia-labeouf\">Shia LaBeouf<\/a>, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne, and Dustin Hoffman for the project. Figgis had extensive access to the making of the film and interviewed most of the stars. Coppola\u2019s clashes with LaBeouf are a running theme in the movie \u2014\u00a0in the trailer, we see him yelling, \u201cI\u2019ve done this for 50 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cYou know why I\u2019m doing this movie?\u201d Coppola says elsewhere in the trailer. \u200a\u201dI have money. I already have fame. I already have Oscars. What do I get that I want? Some fun. I wanna have fun\u2026 No one I\u2019m working with realizes how weird a movie this really is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tPlaza is a standout in the trailer, sipping a drink from a goblet as she drops wildly quotable lines. \u201c\u200aI read it and then I emailed him back and I said, \u2018this is a nightmare,&#8217;\u201d she says, before calling Coppola \u201ca romantic\u201d and \u201cvery repressed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tCoppola\u2019s old friend George Lucas, gave a rare interview for the documentary, describing his fellow director as \u201cthe opposite of me. I\u2019m a plan-it-out, plodding along\u2026 And he\u2019s the jump-off-the-cliff guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAt the end of the trailer, Coppola sums up his philosophy: \u201cWho cares if you die broke, if you\u2019ve made something you think is beautiful?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFiggis, whose past films include 1995\u2019s <em>Leaving Las Vegas,<\/em> recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/megadoc-mike-figgis-on-capturing-the-coppola-creative-chaos-1236354098\/\" target=\"_blank\">told <\/a><span style=\"margin: 0px;padding: 0px\"><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/megadoc-mike-figgis-on-capturing-the-coppola-creative-chaos-1236354098\/\">T<\/a>he\u00a0<em>Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u00a0that the documentary began spontaneously, after he sent Coppola an email that noted, \u201c\u2018If<\/span> you want someone to document the process as a fly on the wall, you know how to find me.\u2019 And then I heard nothing back,\u201d Figgis said. \u201cA long time later, out of the blue, I got an email saying, \u2018Hey, sounds good. Could you be here in three weeks for the start of pre-production?\u2019 There was nothing remotely formal about the offer\u2026. It was all very Francis\u2019s style. We want to be able to ask any questions we have to ask in order to really look at why this country is divided right now, and that\u2019s going to provide an energy that will defeat those people who want to destroy our republic. I made this film to contribute to that. And all I want is for this movie to start a conversation.
