Most read like frustration-fueled diary entries dressed up as public service announcements. But the most recent post on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morrisseycentral.com\/messagesfrommorrissey\/page\/1\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Morrissey Central<\/a> appears to be more consequential. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cMorrissey has no choice but to offer for sale all of his business interests in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/the-smiths\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-smiths\" data-tag=\"the-smiths\">The Smiths<\/a>\u201d to any interested party \/ investor,\u201d the post titled \u201cA Soul for Sale\u201d reads. Published on Sept. 3, the message offers up the Smiths\u2019 name, artwork, merchandising rights, songs, synchronization rights, recordings, and contractual rights for publishing for sale to the highest bidder. It\u2019s unclear whether Morrissey created the post himself \u2014 and representatives for the musician did not immediately respond to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBut it does include a quote that is attributed directly to him. \u201cI am burnt out by any and all connections to [former Smiths members Johnny] Marr, [Andy] Rourke, [Mike] Joyce. I have had enough of malicious associations,\u201d he allegedly shared. \u201cWith my entire life I have paid my rightful dues to these songs and these images. I would now like to live disassociated from those who wish me nothing but ill-will and destruction, and this is the only resolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tLast year, Morrissey stated that he accepted a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/johnny-marr-smiths-reunion-i-said-no-1235104638\/\"> \u201clucrative offer\u201d<\/a> from AEG Entertainment Group to reform the Smiths alongside Marr, but said that \u201cMarr ignored the offer.\u201d In a clarifying public statement, Marr reframed the narrative his former bandmate introduced about what actually happened. \u201cI didn\u2019t ignore the offer,\u201d he said. \u201cI said no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn 2023, the Smiths<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/andy-rourke-smiths-bassist-tribute-johnny-marr-1234738441\/\"> bassist Rourke <\/a>died after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer, making any true reunion of the Smiths impossible.
