An elderly man in Ohio claims he fell victim to an online scam that used artificial intelligence to impersonate Jelly Roll<\/a>.<\/p>\n Now, he\u2019s sharing his story in hopes of protecting others.<\/p>\n Ronnie Flint says it began with a message claiming he had won $50,000 in cash and a brand-new car.<\/p>\n The catch? He\u2019d need to cover shipping costs.<\/p>\n Skeptical at first, Flint says he was soon convinced by a series of A.I.-generated videos that looked and sounded like they came directly from Jelly Roll.<\/p>\n \u201cI really thought it was Jelly Roll,\u201d Flint told 2News<\/a>. \u201cWhen they sent the second video where he actually said my full name, that got me. I was like, \u2018Wow, it really is Jelly Roll. He said my name.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n On a fixed income, Flint didn\u2019t have much money to spare.<\/p>\n But after seeing the video, he says he scraped together $70 worth of Apple gift cards and sent them over.<\/p>\n Read More:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>Here\u2019s What an AI Chatbot Had to Say About 23 of the Biggest Country Artists<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cI even told him that I\u2019m on disability,\u201d Flint explained. \u201cYou know, this is all the money<\/a> that I have for the rest of the month.\u201d<\/p>\n Fortunately, a family member spotted the scam before Flint lost more.<\/p>\n They warned him<\/a>, and he immediately stopped all contact and filed a police report.<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s why I called you guys,\u201d Flint told the outlet. \u201cBecause I want to put it out there because maybe somebody else already fell for it.”<\/p>\n He added, “I don\u2019t want them to fall for it the way I did.\u201d<\/p>\n As A.I. technology becomes more advanced, experts warn that scams like this are becoming more common<\/a> \u2014 often using celebrity likenesses to fool unsuspecting fans.<\/p>\n For Flint, the $70 loss was painful but manageable.
