My favorite moment of the night \u2014 the first of two concerts at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey \u2014 took place outside a Carvel\u2019s stand on the first-level concourse, where I watched two passing men point at each other\u2019s chests and hug tight. Why the embrace? Because they had the same 1998 Oasis tour T-shirt on.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cOriginal?\u201d said one\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cYou bet!\u201d said the other.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tBeyond being the tour of the summer, these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-live-reviews\/oasis-reunite-first-show-review-1235379271\/\">Gallagher brothers shows<\/a>, by all reports, have been surprising in their positivity. \u201cThere are New Jersey vibes in the arena!\u201d said Liam when he first got to the microphone. \u201cThere are <em>Oasis<\/em> vibes in the arena!\u201d Who would\u2019ve guessed Jersey vibes and Oasis vibes would be so \u2026 cuddly and buoyant?<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tA few years ago, the event even taking place seemed unlikely. The Gallagher brothers have spent the better part of the past 15 years pelting each other with insults. Liam would tweet photos of Noel with the caption \u201cpotato,\u201d and Noel would characterize Liam as useless, expendable, difficult, ungrateful, and more. My favorite burn from this feud \u2014 maybe any feud, actually \u2014 is Noel describing Liam as so frustrated and helpless that he was like \u201ca man with a fork in a world made of soup.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tTruly a top-tier insult \u2014 but depressing. For people who cared, the Gallagher situation was part of the broken timeline we find ourselves in: a moron for a president, aluminum in our deodorant, and one of the coolest bands in the world not on tour because two brothers couldn\u2019t stop hitting each other in the back seat.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAnd then, suddenly, that last thing got fixed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOasis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/oasis-reunion-tour-film-steven-knight-1235295132\/\">announced<\/a> they were going on the road. Like tens of thousands of others, I secured tickets, planned out how to get to the Jersey swamps from New York City, and tried to not get too excited, even though rapturous footage from their U.K. leg was showing up on Instagram. \u201cThere\u2019s a chance,\u201d said a friend of mine, \u201cthat they never make it to the stage.\u201d<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ editors-pick-module lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThere may be \u2014 as my fellow concertgoer Sloane Crosley guessed \u2014 separate greenrooms, but when they come on holding hands, it feels like everyone is thinking the same thing: \u201cOh, my god, it\u2019s happening.\u201d You don\u2019t have to just <em>think<\/em> it, either. You can shriek it, like the man in front of me did.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThere is a sense of occasion to this. The walk to the stadium through the vast expanse of parking lot feels like the walk to Wembley from the tube. There\u2019s tailgating and unauthorized merch and people in bucket hats. There\u2019s Man City colors and Oasis Adidas jerseys that were gone from nearly every merch stand before Cage the Elephant had finished their opening set. A religious experience, if the religion was \u201cfootball hooligan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAnd Oasis sounds great, by the way. Liam\u2019s voice sounded like it did on the albums, like he still sounds in your headphones, like you remember from Oasis being background music at the first house parties you got drunk in. And they play mostly the hits, mostly pre-1996 stuff, mostly sing-along-friendly stuff. An unexpected highlight is \u201cHalf the World Away,\u201d a theme song to a British sitcom that didn\u2019t chart in the United States, but whose chorus is enthusiastically echoed by the crowd when the band leaves room for them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAnd beyond getting to witness the concert, you got to witness people for whom this was long-awaited: the guy in front of me was a Brit in his sixties; I didn\u2019t get his name when he shouted it into my ear, but I\u2019ll call him Terry. When he first saw Oasis, he told me, he had just met his wife, and his children existed only in his imagination. Now, he was standing next to that wife and a daughter \u2014 who works for Gotham FC, the tristate area\u2019s National Women\u2019s Soccer League team \u2014 drunk on Heineken and Britpop and the time machine he found himself in. \u201cI think,\u201d Terry said, close to tears, \u201cthis might be the best night of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ recirculation-modules lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tRelated Content<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tYou get the sense from the production \u2014 intentional, but surprisingly spare outside of ear-busting sound and a closing fireworks show \u2014 that these Oasis concerts seem to know exactly what they are: a collective exercise in nostalgia, without the sad patina of has-beenship. The attraction is the boys back together \u2014 and you being there, getting to roar the songs along with them. \u201cYou may have been wondering what it\u2019s like to sing this along with 60 or 70,000 Oasis fans. You\u2019re about to find out,\u201d said Noel, introducing \u201cDon\u2019t Look Back in Anger.\u201d I had actually never wondered that, but I really enjoyed getting to do it when the moment came.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tNoel, almost entirely tight-lipped through the first half of the show, mostly leaving the posturing to his younger brother, seemed genuinely emotional. \u201cNobody has fans like these,\u201d he said. \u201cNobody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIt\u2019s obviously not unusual for people to sing along with a concert, especially in a stadium, but the lack of self-consciousness was noteworthy. These two Mancunians \u2014 especially Liam \u2014 are nearly characterized by the presentation of coudn\u2019t-give-a-fuckness. But you don\u2019t squash a Cain-and-Abel feud, sell a million tickets in less time than it takes to watch an episode of <em>Friends,<\/em> and design endless amounts of custom merchandise on a lark. You don\u2019t pay $40 for parking on a lark. You don\u2019t drive to New Jersey for fun. You do it because you want to, and because you\u2019re a decade past pretending you don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOasis in 1996 felt subversive in its naked desire to be rock stars. Oasis in 2025 is subversive in understanding that it\u2019s a bit silly to want that, but utterly nonjudgmental about the time when you did. At these concerts, as people scream \u2014 <em>scream<\/em> \u2014 along to \u201cCigarettes and Alcohol\u201d with 50,000 others, and a few folks Google the lyrics, you can\u2019t pretend you don\u2019t care.
