Next year would have marked Miles Davis<\/a>\u2019 100th birthday. In advance of the centennial, independent music rights company Reservoir Media<\/a> has struck a deal with the Miles Davis estate to acquire 90 percent of Davis\u2019 music publishing rights and the estate\u2019s income from his catalog, according to The New York Times<\/em><\/a>. Reservoir and the estate will share control of Davis\u2019 name and likeness. Terms of the acquisition have not been made public, though the Times<\/em> estimates Reservoir to have paid between $40 and $60 million.<\/p>\n Reservoir has also outlined plans for a celebration of Davis\u2019 centennial in 2026. These include a previously announced biopic<\/a> centered on Davis\u2019 love affair with French singer Juliette Gr\u00e9co<\/a>\u2014Mick Jagger<\/a> is among the film\u2019s producers\u2014an international tour by the former Miles Electric Band, now known as M.E.B., and a four-night \u201cMiles Davis Centennial Celebration\u201d to take place at San Francisco\u2019s SFJazz center this March.<\/p>\n Reservoir currently administers the publishing catalogs of Snoop Dog and Joni Mitchell, among others, as well as the rights to songs by Sheryl Crow, the Isley Brothers, Offset, and Sonny Rollins. In 2021, the company purchased<\/a> hip-hop and electronic label Tommy Boy Music, which led to De La Soul\u2019s full discography being made available on streaming<\/a> for the first time. Sony Music has confirmed to Music Business Worldwide<\/em><\/a> that it retains the recorded music rights to Davis\u2019 albums released between 1955 and 1985.<\/p>\n \u201cWith Reservoir, there\u2019s a real respect for Miles\u2014his music, his style and his cultural impact.
