\n\tMorgan Wallen<\/a> flipped the bird while performing at a recent show at Rogers Centre in Toronto. It was a move many online have interpreted as the singer weighing in on the ongoing feud between Gavin Adcock<\/a> and Charley Crockett<\/a> over what merits \u201cauthenticity\u201d in the country genre.<\/p>\n \n\tDuring Wallen\u2019s performance on Sept. 4 for his I\u2019m the Problem <\/em>tour, the artist brought Adcock out, who proceeded to hold up a T-shirt that appeared to be branded with an image of Crockett and the text, \u201c$10 Cowboy Tour,\u201d which seems to match a shirt <\/a>sold by Crockett online. In the clip, Wallen holds two middle fingers up in front of the shirt and walks aways smiling before continuing on with the rest of the show.<\/p>\n \n\tReps for Wallen, Crockett, and Adcock did not immediately return Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s requests for comment.<\/p>\n \n\tLast month, Crockett, a country singer from San Benito, Texas,\u00a0addressed country fans<\/a> in a social media post taking on country music\u2019s debated take on what merits \u201cauthenticity.\u201d \u201cHey country folks. Beyonc\u00e9 ain\u2019t the source of your discontent. It was 25 years of\u00a0bro country<\/a>,\u201d he wrote at the time. Crockett also seemed to reference Wallen, writing, \u201c#1 country artist on earth listen\u2019s [sic] to nothing but rap,\u201d and to Adcock, who in June said onstage that Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s\u00a0Cowboy Carter<\/a><\/em> \u201cain\u2019t country music, and it ain\u2019t ever been country music, and it ain\u2019t gonna be country music.\u201d Adcock\u00a0later doubled down<\/a>\u00a0on his comments during his appearance on\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s\u00a0Nashville Now<\/a><\/em>\u00a0podcast.<\/p>\n \n\tIn an Instagram post almost certainly addressing Adcock\u2019s comments, Crockett wrote: \u201cBlack music made me. I will not apologize. Raised by a single mama. I am not ashamed. Many men have tried to destroy me. I will not lose.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tDuring his own turn <\/a>on\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2019s\u00a0Nashville Now<\/a><\/em>, Crockett disputed the notion that \u201coutlaw country\u201d is a subgenre of today\u2019s country. \u201cI don\u2019t think they stand for anything. They stand for Auto-Tune and songs written by a committee,\u201d he said of the pop-country industry. \u201cOutlaw was about standing up for your rights against a very rigid music business system. In a game where you throw money at a young artist, and if it doesn\u2019t work out, no problem, because there\u2019s 1,000 standing behind you, well, a controversial figure is unlikely to ever rise.\u201d<\/p>\n
