Lainey Wilson<\/a> and Vince Gill<\/a>\u00a0brought country soul to the 2025 Emmy Awards.<\/p>\n

On Sunday (Sept. 14), the country powerhouses joined forces<\/a> to honor the lives the television world lost over the past year.<\/p>\n

Their moving duet of Gill\u2019s classic \u201cGo Rest High on That Mountain\u201d during the show\u2019s annual In Memoriam<\/strong> segment brought stillness and reverence to an otherwise glitzy evening.<\/p>\n

A Tribute That Hit Home<\/h3>\n

Wilson and Gill stood center stage, trading verses and harmonizing on the chorus of the now 30-year-old song, which Gill originally wrote in the wake of personal tragedy.<\/p>\n

The Song\u2019s New Chapter<\/h3>\n

Originally released in 1995, \u201cGo Rest High on That Mountain\u201d earned two Grammy Awards and has become a country staple at funerals and memorial tributes.<\/p>\n

Gill wrote the song after losing his close friend, Keith Whitley, in 1989, and his brother, Bob Gill, in 1993.<\/p>\n

But Sunday\u2019s Emmy performance featured something new: a third verse never included on the original recording \u2014 one Gill first debuted live in 2019, and now officially released on a new version of the song this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re safely home in the arms of Jesus \/ Eternal life my brother\u2019s found \/ The day will come I know I\u2019ll see him \/ In that sacred place, on that holy ground<\/em>,\u201d Gill sang.<\/p>\n

A Rare Country Moment at the Emmys<\/h3>\n

Country performances are rare at the Emmys, making this duet even more meaningful.<\/p>\n

With Wilson\u2019s signature warmth<\/a> and Gill\u2019s personal connection to the song, their voices brought depth and comfort to the televised tribute.<\/p>\n
