{"id":46742,"date":"2025-09-16T16:34:40","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T16:34:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/16\/matt-cameron-cites-constant-touring-while-discussing-pearl-jam-exit\/"},"modified":"2025-09-16T16:34:40","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T16:34:40","slug":"matt-cameron-cites-constant-touring-while-discussing-pearl-jam-exit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/16\/matt-cameron-cites-constant-touring-while-discussing-pearl-jam-exit\/","title":{"rendered":"Matt Cameron Cites &#8216;Constant Touring&#8217; While Discussing Pearl Jam Exit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tFormer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/pearl-jam\/\" id=\"auto-tag_pearl-jam\" data-tag=\"pearl-jam\">Pearl Jam<\/a> drummer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/matt-cameron\/\" id=\"auto-tag_matt-cameron\" data-tag=\"matt-cameron\">Matt Cameron<\/a> admitted that he was \u201chaving some issues\u201d with Pearl Jam\u2019s rigorous touring schedule as he spoke about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/matt-cameron-retired-pearl-jam-exit-1235384880\/\">his decision<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/pearl-jam-matt-cameron-leaves-band-1235379681\/\">leave the band<\/a> in a new interview with <em><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/music\/rock\/soundgarden-final-album-after-rock-hall-induction-1236067155\/\">Billboard<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe drummer \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/drummer-apocalypse-2025-who-foo-fighters-nine-inch-nails-1235402270\/\">announced his departure<\/a> in July \u2014 cited Pearl Jam\u2019s marathon three-hour shows and \u201cconstant touring\u201d schedule when explaining why he felt it was time for him to step back. \u201cThat\u2019s definitely an art form unto itself, to be able to do those types of shows,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tCameron also said he was eager to focus on different types of musical projects, saying, \u201cI\u2019m at a point in my life where I want to redirect my time and energy in a way that is a little bit based on what I want to pursue as an artist at this point.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tOne of those projects is Is This Real?, a new band that began as a tribute to punk pioneers Wipers, but will also record original music that Cameron has \u201cbeen writing over the years.\u201d Cameron is serving as the band\u2019s lead vocalist and guitarist, and he hopes to release an Is This Real? album soon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tCameron is also working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/3rd-secret-album-kim-thayil-matt-cameron-krist-novoselic-1336127\/\">3rd Secret, a supergroup<\/a> featuring Soundgarden\u2019s Kim Thayil, Nirvana\u2019s Krist Novoselic, and Void\u2019s Jon \u201cBubba\u201d Dupree. That band may hit the road soon, too, Cameron said, though they won\u2019t be playing the same kind of shows as Pearl Jam.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m at a point now where I want to do a face-melting 70-minute set, and that\u2019s kind of what I\u2019m focusing on right now,\u201d Cameron said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tCameron stressed that his decision to leave Pearl Jam was amicable, adding, \u201cI definitely gave them a lot of notice.\u201d He went on to say he\u2019d spoken with his former bandmates, guitarist Stone Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament, \u201ca little bit\u201d and that \u201cit\u2019s been fine.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ recirculation-modules trending-in-article lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cHopefully we\u2019ll get back together at some point and have a beer or something,\u201d Cameron said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tPearl Jam have yet to reveal their new drummer, and it\u2019s unclear when a decision will be made.
