Sidney Brown, the producer and DJ who worked with the likes of Drake<\/a>, Beyonc\u00e9<\/a>, and Lil Wayne<\/a> under the name Omen, has died. Brown was found in his Harlem, New York apartment on Saturday, September 13, by his sister, Nicole Iris Brown. “He was holistic and healthy. So we don\u2019t know of him being sick, so this is all pretty sudden,\u201d she said in a statement to NBC News<\/a>. Brown was 49.<\/p>\n Born in Harlem in 1976, Brown produced for artists in the Roc-A-Fella Records orbit throughout the late \u201990s and early \u201900s. He worked on Memphis Bleek<\/a>\u2019s Coming of Age<\/em>, M\u00fda\u2019s Moodring<\/em>, and Fabolous<\/a>\u2019 Street Dreams<\/em>, among others. Brown also composed the score for Paper Soldiers<\/em>, the 2002 rap comedy produced by Roc-A-Fella\u2019s film studio that gave Kevin Hart his big-screen debut.<\/p>\n In 2006, Brown made the beat for \u201cTell It Like It Is\u201d from Ludacris<\/a>\u2019 Release Therapy<\/em><\/a>, which won Best Rap Album at the 2007 Grammy Awards. A few years later, he met Drake through Noah \u201c40\u201d Shebib<\/a>, and ended up co-producing \u201cShut It Down,\u201d a The-Dream<\/a> duet off the Canadian rapper\u2019s 2010 debut Thank Me Later<\/em><\/a>. Brown and Shebib would reunite on Lil Wayne\u2019s \u201cI\u2019m Single\u201d and again on \u201cMine,\u201d Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s own Drake duet from her 2013 self-titled album<\/a>.<\/p>\n Brown\u2019s last credited work as a producer was on Action Bronson<\/a>\u2019s 2015 LP Mr. Wonderful<\/em><\/a>, though he continued to DJ at local bars and restaurants. \u201cI hope people will remember that he was willing to help the younger generation,\u201d his sister told NBC. \u201cHe was always big on helping younger people start their careers and get themselves into the game. It was about just the music, no matter who the artist was.\u201d<\/p>\n
