\n\tBob Dylan<\/a>\u2018s early years on the New York and Minnesota folk scenes will be chronicled on the upcoming 18th volume of the Bootleg Series, Through The Open Window, 1956-1963.<\/em> It arrives on October 31.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 8-disc deluxe box includes 139 tracks that begin when Dylan was just 15 years old in 1956, and stretches through his triumphant headlining set at New York\u2019s Carnegie Hall eight years later. There are 48 performances in the collection that have never been released. There will also be a 2CD\/4LP \u201cHighlights\u201d edition with 42 tracks. \n\tPrinceton historian Sean Wilentz contributed a 125-page essay to the collection. \u201cOf that time and those places, this collection is just a fragment,\u201d Wilentz says in a statement, \u201cEven so, as an aural record of an artist becoming himself\u2014or in Dylan\u2019s case, his first of many artistic selves\u2014the collection aims to collapse time and space, not as a nostalgic reverie but as a living connection between the past and the present, the old and the new, which are never as distinct as we might think.\u201d<\/p>\n
