Members of David Bowie<\/a>\u2019s band paid tribute to security guard Stuart \u201cStuey\u201d George after his recent passing.<\/p>\n He was hired as the Ziggy Stardust<\/a> era took Bowie to international success, when he and the Spiders From Mars began encountering angry reactions at concerts.<\/p>\n A post on Bowie\u2019s official social media accounts reported: \u201cSad to learn of the passing of Stuey George, one of Bowie\u2019s bodyguards who worked for him for a decade.<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong>\u00a0The Best Song From Every David Bowie Album<\/a><\/p>\n \u201cStuey had been working with Mick Ronson<\/a>\u2019s band The Rats, and he eventually moved south from Hull to join David and The Spiders as success created the need for protection.\u201d<\/p>\n Spiders drummer Woody Woodmansey said: \u201cWhen Bowie and The Spiders were first touring the show, it got quite scary as we seemed to stir up a lot of animosity from some of the male [crowd] members, who didn\u2019t like how excited their girlfriends were during and after the show.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter a few times where we were in real danger of getting hurt, David said, \u2018Do you know anyone who we could get as a bodyguard?\u2019 Mick and I said, \u2018Yes \u2013 Stuey George\u2026 he was a roadie of ours in The Rats.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2018He once lined a whole audience up by the walls in a gig after several fights had broken\u2026 After that, no more fights.\u2019 He did an excellent job\u2026 He was a loveable rogue and as hard as they come.\u201d<\/p>\n Keyboardist Mike Garson added: \u201cStu had the greatest sense of humor. We never stopped laughing on the Ziggy tour \u2013 and of course no one would ever mess with him.\u201d<\/p>\n Geoff MacCormack, best known as Warren Peace, recalled: \u201cI loved Stu\u2026 always felt safe when he was around!\u201d<\/p>\n In 2016, soon after Bowie\u2019s death, George recalled<\/a> an example of what his work entailed, describing an incident when his boss and Mick Jagger<\/a> spent an intimate time in a closet with a famous female singer he refused to name, and a world-class ballet dancer wanted to join in.<\/p>\n \u201cDavid told me to wait outside and make sure they weren\u2019t disturbed,\u201d the bouncer explained. \u201cRudolf Nureyev was partying with them [and] spotted them sneaking off.<\/p>\n \u201c[He] wanted to join in and said, \u2018I have be in there.\u2019 I politely said, \u2018No\u2019 \u2013 I was under orders. David, Mick and the woman were in the closet for 20 minutes and came out with big smiles.
