Jay Electronica<\/a> has returned with a new project called A Written Testimony: Leaflets<\/em> \u2014 listen to it below.<\/p>\n Clocking in at just seven songs, the surprise project serves as a supplement to the Roc Nation MC\u2019s debut album A Written Testimony<\/em>, which was released in 2020 following a painfully long wait for a full-length release.<\/p>\n Leaflets<\/em> features guest appearances from Quentin Miller<\/a> and DRAM<\/a>, as well as an intro from Diddy<\/a>, marking the embattled mogul\u2019s second on-wax cameo since his legal ordeal following Kanye West<\/a>\u2018s \u201cLonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine\u201d earlier this year.<\/p>\n Of course, Puff has been a longtime Jay Electronica supporter and unsuccessfully attempted to lure him to Bad Boy in the late 2000s after the breakout success of \u201cExhibit C.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the excitement and frenzy that a new Jay Electronica project would normally create, Leaflets<\/em> is not a conventional release. A good chunk of its 29-minute running time is taken up by sampled audio clips rooted in Jay\u2019s religious beliefs and conspiracy theories \u2014 ranging from the existence of UFOs to skepticism over climate change.<\/p>\n When he does grace the mic, however, it\u2019s special. On the bars-heavy \u201cAbracadabra,\u201d Jay Elec confidently declares: \u201cThe entire trajectory of my career screams \u2018fuck the industry\u2019 \/ Yet you can\u2019t have a debate about the greats and not mention my name.\u201d<\/em> And \u201cJapan Airline 1682,\u201d which samples the indie rock band Vacations, finds Jay channeling his inner rock star \u2014 a curveball not even his day one fans would have expected.<\/p>\n Another memorable moment comes on \u201cFour Billion, Four Hundred Million (4,400,000,000) \/ The Worst Is Yet To Come\u201d when the New Orleans native hints at more where this came from.<\/p>\n \u201cHov<\/a> been such a brother to me and so patient with me,\u201d<\/em> he spits, alluding to his frustrating lack of regular output. \u201cI gave him 19 albums in one day and he ain\u2019t even have to pay me.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Does this mean more new Jay Electronica is on the way?<\/p>\n Considering Act II: The Patents of Nobility (The Turn)<\/em>, his mythical, long-lost album which leaked back in 2020, finally hit streaming<\/a> just one day ago, it certainly feels like Jay Elec-Hanukkah is up to something.<\/p>\n Stream A Written Testimony: Leaflets<\/em> below.<\/p>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n
