\n\tHootie and the Blowfish<\/a> frontman Darius Rucker<\/a> has formed a supergroup, Howl Owl Howl<\/a>, with R.E.M. bassist Mike Mills<\/a> and co-founding, former drummer for the Black Crowes, Steve Gorman<\/a>. Their debut track \u201cMy Cologne\u201d arrives Oct. 31, and they\u2019re kicking off their inaugural tour Nov. 3 at the Vogue in Indianapolis, Indiana.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cIt feels great to be singing with a rock band again,\u201d Rucker says in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s like buddies getting together, but also getting to play with your idols. The stuff we\u2019re writing is so different than anything I\u2019ve tried to do before.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tMills shares Rucker\u2019s excitement. \u201cYou never can explain band chemistry,\u201d he says. \u201cWe all like each other. And we all admire each other musically. All those things come together and if it weren\u2019t fun, we wouldn\u2019t be doing it.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tAccording to a press release, the group\u2019s music \u201cfuses organic roots rock with an open-minded alternative flair, matching a fluid, feel-oriented rhythm section to the barrel-chested vocal rasp of an iconic frontman.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe group started with informal jam sessions back in 2021, but it remained a secret until Rucker discussed it with Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s Brian Hiatt last summer.<\/a><\/p>\n \n\t\u201cYou can call it a supergroup if you want, but I think people will really be surprised at how good it is,\u201d Rucker said. \u201cBut we\u2019re just a band. We\u2019re friends, and we jammed together one day at Steve\u2019s kid\u2019s school with [Nashville session player] Tom Bukovac playing guitar. We were just like, \u2018Let\u2019s go in the studio and see what happens.\u2019 And we went in the studio and to be honest with you, magic happened, and then I just can\u2019t wait for the record to get out.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
