Combs wrote that he has been humbled by his time spent in prison while awaiting sentencing, saying he\u2019s been \u201cworking diligently to become the best version of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cToday, I humbly ask you for another chance \u2014 another chance to be a better father, another chance to be a better son, another chance to be a better leader in my community, and another chance to live a better life,\u201d Combs wrote in the four-page letter obtained by <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cI am writing this not to gain any sympathy or pity, this experience is simply the truth of my existence and has changed my life forever and I will never commit a crime again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tCombs, who said he\u2019s sober \u201cfor the first time in 25 years,\u201d continued, \u201cThis has been the hardest two years of my life, and I have no one to blame for my current reality and situation but myself.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tCombs, 55, has spent more than a year in federal custody after\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sean-combs-arrested-grand-jury-indictment-1234998531\/\">his September 2024 arrest<\/a>\u00a0in the felony case. On July 2, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sean-diddy-combs-trial-verdict-1235375020\/\">jury convicted him<\/a>\u00a0of the two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Jurors rejected a trio of more serious charges, finding that prosecutors failed to prove Combs ran a racketeering conspiracy or sex trafficked two former girlfriends. The acquittals meant Combs was no longer facing the possibility of life in prison. At the time, the mogul pumped his fist and dropped to his knees as he celebrated in the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIn my life, I have made many mistakes, but I am no longer running from them,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI am so sorry for the hurt that I caused, but I understand that the mere words \u2018I\u2019m sorry\u2019 will never be good enough as these words alone cannot erase the pain from the past,\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn a sentencing letter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sean-diddy-combs-sentencing-request-substance-abuse-1235431457\/\">filed last week<\/a>, Combs\u2019 defense asked for no more than 14 months in prison, arguing his conviction did not involve a \u201cprofit motive\u201d or any \u201cbrothels, pimps, or minors.\u201d Prosecutors, meanwhile, <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sean-diddy-combs-prosecutors-seek-11-year-sentence-1235437552\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sean-diddy-combs-prosecutors-seek-11-year-sentence-1235437552\/\">asked for a sentence <\/a>of 11 years and three months in custody, arguing an \u201cunrepentant\u201d Combs committed his crimes while subjecting his ex-girlfriends to \u201cviolence, coercion, and abuse.\u201d For their part, federal probation officials have recommended a sentence of about six to seven years in prison.<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ editors-pick-module lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tEditor\u2019s picks<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tCombs is facing a maximum possible sentence of 20 years, considering each of his two Mann Act convictions carries up to 10 years. U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian will have wide latitude to issue whatever sentence he sees fit up to that maximum. In a series of rulings on motions brought by Combs after his conviction, Judge Subramanian has been stern. He denied multiple requests from the defense to get Combs out of custody pending sentencing, and in a 16-page ruling Tuesday, he rejected a motion\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/sean-diddy-combs-prostitution-charges-request-new-trial-1235397735\/\">asking him to either vacate<\/a>\u00a0the jury\u2019s convictions or order a new trial on the two Mann Act charges only. Combs and his lawyers argued in part that he was an amateur porn producer whose freak-off sessions and videos were protected by his First Amendment rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cAt some point, illegal activity can\u2019t be laundered into constitutionally protected activity just by the desire to watch it,\u201d the judge wrote in his ruling. \u201cCombs\u2019s conduct goes far beyond that point. Evidence at trial showed that when Combs filmed, he didn\u2019t typically give notice ahead of time or ask for consent, as a film producer would; and that he masturbated, suggesting that the purpose was his immediate sexual gratification.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tAhead of his sentencing, Combs also submitted letters from scores of supporters asking for mercy for the music mogul. One letter submitted late Wednesday was from Gina Huynh, the Combs ex-girlfriend who previously told gossip vlogger Tasha K that Combs shoved her to the ground and dragged her by her hair in 2018. I was not trafficked. I did not engage in prostitution with him or others. That would have been my testimony if called to the stand,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI want to emphasize that I understand the seriousness of this case and the pain others may feel. I cannot speak for anyone but myself.
