Jamey Johnson<\/a>\u00a0didn\u2019t realize he was colorblind until he was 19 years old and enlisting in the United States Marine Corps.<\/p>\n Johnson shared the story during an appearance on the Big D and Bubba<\/a> radio show.<\/p>\n The \u201cMacon\u201d singer said, \u201cI never knew I was colorblind until I went to get into the Marine Corps. They handed me that test with all the little dots on it and asked, \u2018What number do you see?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson continued, \u201cI\u2019m good at inventory, so I started counting them across and down. I was halfway through my count when I thought, \u2018This guy\u2019s getting a little impatient \u2014 who the hell else counts these sum b*****s this fast?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Calmly \u2014 though pushing through a small laugh \u2014 the country icon kept recalling the situation.<\/p>\n \u201cHe said, \u2018Did anyone ever tell you that you\u2019re colorblind?\u2019 and I said, \u2018No,\u2019 and he said, \u2018You don\u2019t care, do ya?\u2019 I said, \u2018No, we\u2019re getting into the Marine Corps today \u2014 I didn\u2019t know about the color test.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n The \u201cIn Color\u201d singer then recalled a moment from his childhood when he sensed something was different, though he couldn\u2019t quite piece it together at the time.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen I was little, I remember watching the color TV for the first time and seeing The Wizard of Oz<\/em>. They had this big slogan, See it in color<\/em>, and that always stuck with me.\u201d<\/p>\n Johnson gives a perspective into color blindness that only someone with the restriction can give.<\/p>\n “Something that I think colorblind people do naturally that you wouldn’t think of is they learn how to get around the color blindness. They learn how to associate things.”<\/p>\n “Instead of three different colors of pieces of paper, they might associate it with the size of the paper or that one of them has a folded over corner and stuff like that.
