The reunion was a smash success, but unfortunately for some fans, it got cut short when the band was forced to cancel some of the later dates.<\/p>\n<h3>When Did the Eagles Reunite?<\/h3>\n<p>On Oct. 3, 1994, the Eagles announced that they were suspending the final dates of their humorously-named Hell Freezes Over Tour due to singer-guitarist <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/glenn-frey\/\">Glenn Frey<\/a>&#8216;s illness.<\/p>\n<p>The tour was the band&#8217;s first since 1980&#8217;s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/the-eagles-the-long-run-story-behind-the-album\/\">The Long Run<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>album, after which they dissolved in rancor for nearly 15 years. The Hell Freezes Over\u00a0Tour followed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/eagles-reunion-travis-tritt\/\" target=\"_blank\">brief reunion<\/a>\u00a0for the video for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/tags\/travis-tritt\/\">Travis Tritt<\/a>&#8216;s version of &#8220;Take It Easy&#8221; in 1994, which served as the catalyst for their decision to reunite in the <em>Long Run<\/em>-era lineup of Frey, <a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/tags\/don-henley\/\">Don Henley<\/a>, Joe Walsh, Don Felder and Timothy B. Schmit.<\/p>\n<h3>Why Did the Eagles Cancel the Last Dates of Their Reunion Tour?<\/h3>\n<p>According to the Oklahoma City <a href=\"https:\/\/oklahoman.com\/article\/2479700\/eagles-concert-at-myriad-fails-to-fly-singers-illness-postpones-rest-of-tour\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Oklahoman<\/em><\/a>, Frey was suffering from a &#8220;chronic gastrointestinal disorder,&#8221; which was later revealed to be a recurrence of diverticulitis. The band rescheduled the remaining dates for 1995.<\/p>\n<div class=\"branded-app-shortcode-inarticle\">\n<div class=\"logo-wrap\" rel=\"fwef\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Frey\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/arts-and-entertainment\/wp\/2015\/11\/04\/eagles-founder-glenn-frey-facing-surgery-band-to-put-off-kennedy-center-honor\/\" target=\"_blank\">later spoke publicly <\/a>about his intestinal issues, which he attributed to his previous use of drugs and alcohol. In 1986, he had missed a reunion with Henley\u00a0due to his\u00a0ailments, and in 1990 he underwent surgery to remove a large part of his intestine.<\/p>\n<h3>When Did Glenn Frey Die?<\/h3>\n<p>Frey would <a href=\"https:\/\/theboot.com\/glenn-frey-stomach-surgery\/\" target=\"_blank\">undergo surgery again in 2015<\/a>, which forced the band to re-schedule accepting the Kennedy Center Honors. Sadly, he did not live to see that ceremony; Frey\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/eagles-glenn-frey-dead\/\">died<\/a>\u00a0in January of 2016 at the age of 67\u00a0from\u00a0complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia.<\/p>\n<p>Most fans and even the band members themselves assumed the Eagles were finished with Frey&#8217;s death, but on July 15, 2017, they regrouped in a new lineup that included Frey&#8217;s son, Deacon, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/tags\/vince-gill\/\">Vince Gill<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/the-eagles-vince-gill-first-concert\/\">playing their first show together<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0Classic West at\u00a0Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Gill had previously helped\u00a0tribute the Eagles at the 2016\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/vince-gill-eagles-life-in-the-fast-lane-kennedy-center-honors\/\">Kennedy Center Honors<\/a>\u00a0alongside\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/ringo-starr\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ringo Starr<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/bob-seger\/\" target=\"_blank\">Bob Seger<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/steve-vai\/\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Vai<\/a>\u00a0and Kings of Leon, with a performance of &#8220;Life in the Fast Lane.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Eagles are currently on the road as part of their farewell <a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/the-eagles-final-tour-the-long-goodbye\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Long Goodbye Tour<\/a>, which they announced in June of 2023.
