The actor, who was diagnosed with ALS earlier this year, was set to present an award alongside his former Grey’s Anatomy <\/em>co-star Jesse Williams<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n \n\tFormer Grey\u2019s Anatomy <\/em>star Eric Dane<\/a> revealed that he had to miss a planned appearance at the Emmy Awards<\/a> because of a head injury tied to his ALS diagnosis.<\/p>\n \n\tDane was set to present an Emmy alongside his old Grey\u2019s<\/em> co-star Jesse Williams, but had to pull out at the last minute. (Williams presented the award alone.) Speaking with The Washington Post<\/a><\/em>, Dane said, \u201cALS is a nasty disease\u2026 So I was in the hospital during the Emmys getting stitches put in my head.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe actor, who revealed his ALS diagnosis<\/a> earlier this year, declined to say exactly what caused the injury. ALS \u2014 also known as Lou Gherig\u2019s disease for the baseball star who was diagnosed with it \u2014 is a degenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, and can cause loss of muscle control.\u00a0Dane revealed over the summer that he\u2019d largely lost control<\/a> over the right side of his body.<\/p>\n \n\tStill, Dane said he was upset to have missed the Emmys<\/a>, saying he was \u201creally looking forward to it.\u201d He continued: \u201cIt would have been great to see Jesse and get reunited with some of my peers, and to be able to present in front of my colleagues, I thought would have been a special moment. So I was a really upset about it, but you know, there was nothing I could do about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
