On Tuesday, the artist (whose real name is Melina Duterte) released the single \u201cPast Lives,\u201d which she previously told <em>Rolling Stone<\/em> was one of the hardest on her album to complete.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s a dream come true to have Hayley sing on my first feature on an album before the recording of \u2018Float,\u2019 I still can\u2019t believe it happened,\u201d Som said in a statement. \u201cShe\u2019s one of the kindest artists out there and she graciously accepts and uplifts the people around her. The pair then met in Nashville to work on the song with Steph Marziano. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tIn an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/jay-som-interview-new-album-boygenius-lucy-dacus-1235422387\/\">interview with <em>Rolling Stone<\/em><\/a> from last month, Som said that \u201cPast Lives\u201d went through \u201cso many phases.\u201d \u201cLike the intro changing, my vocals, I redid all of the guitars,\u201d Som explained. \u201cI basically redid everything to Hayley\u2019s voice because it just felt like this impossible task to honor her vocals in the song.\u201d<\/p>\n<section class=\"brands-most-popular \/\/ recirculation-modules trending-in-article lrv-u-margin-tb-2 lrv-u-border-a-2 u-box-shadow-5-5 lrv-u-padding-lr-1 a-span1 u-padding-b-1@tablet u-overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 id=\"section-heading\" class=\"c-heading larva  lrv-u-text-align-center u-border-color-black a-font-theme-primary-xxs lrv-u-color-black lrv-u-text-transform-uppercase u-letter-spacing-0063 lrv-u-padding-t-050 u-padding-b-0375@tablet lrv-u-padding-b-050@mobile-max lrv-u-border-b-2\">\n<p>\t\tTrending Stories<\/p>\n<\/h2>\n<\/section>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSom added that she and Williams spent six hours hanging out and that Williams said she loved the demo after it was played for her. \u201cThe night before, I had just come up with the melodies for the vocals, and we showed it to Hayley and she was like \u2018Let me come through,\u2019 and she had all of these beautiful ideas,\u201d Som said. \u201cShe kept just offering her voice, and we used every single track on the song \u2026 [Every time] I opened the session up, I\u2019d be stressed out, like my heart would sink because it just didn\u2019t feel like it was strong enough for her. So there was just a lot of massaging to get to the final version.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tSom is set to go on tour in November.
