De La Soul<\/a> have revealed the title of their new album \u2014 and it commemorates their fallen member, Trugoy The Dove<\/a>.<\/p>\n Posdnuos<\/a> and Maseo<\/a> appeared at a New York Comic Con panel on Friday (October 10) alongside Nas, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, DJ Premier and Slick Rick to promote Mass Appeal and Marvel\u2019s new Legend Has It<\/em>\u00a0comic book collaboration<\/a>.<\/p>\n While discussing the group\u2019s upcoming ninth LP, which is due out in November via Mass Appeal Records, Pos reflected on Trugoy\u2019s 2023 passing<\/a> and how it impacted the recording process.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen we lost him \u2026 I came and got [Maseo] out of the hole. We were all broken, but I kinda took on that role in Beat Street<\/em> where I was like, \u2018Yo, man, we gotta treat Dave like Ramon \u2014 we gotta keep him alive, we gotta celebrate him,’\u201d he said.<\/p>\n \u201cOf course, we have songs with Dave on it but \u2014 yo, for me, and I\u2019m sure there are people here who are spiritual and understand what I\u2019m saying, it feels like, \u2018Dave\u2019s here for me. He\u2019s here<\/em>.\u2019 There are times where I\u2019m writing rhymes and I\u2019m getting goosebumps \u2019cause I feel like Dave would be saying, \u2018Yo, that\u2019s dope!’\u201d<\/p>\n Posdnuos then revealed that De La\u2019s forthcoming album is titled Cabin in the Sky<\/em>, a nod to the 1943 all-Black musical film starring Ethel Waters, Eddie \u201cRochester\u201d Anderson, Lena Horne, Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re working and working [on the album], and I come across this movie. And I\u2019m like, \u2018Yo, this title is crazy!\u2019 Cabin in the Sky<\/em>. Immediately, I felt Dave,\u201d he shared.<\/p>\n Cabin in the Sky<\/em> will serve as De La Soul\u2019s first album in almost a decade following 2016\u2019s And the Anonymous Nobody\u2026<\/em><\/a>, which earned a Best Rap Album nomination at the 2017 Grammys.<\/p>\n The project will also extend Mass Appeal\u2019s Legend Has It\u2026<\/em>, a year-long series of releases from some of New York hip-hop\u2019s most iconic names, helmed by Nas<\/a>.<\/p>\n Slick Rick<\/a>\u2018s comeback album Victory<\/em> kicked things off in June before Raekwon<\/a> (The Emperor\u2019s New Clothes<\/em>), Ghostface Killah<\/a> (Supreme Clientele 2<\/em>) and Mobb Deep<\/a> (Infinite<\/em>) also added to their respective legacies with well-received records.<\/p>\n Also on the horizon are Big L<\/a>\u2018s posthumous LP Harlem\u2019s Finest: Return of the King<\/em> (out October 31) and Nas and DJ Premier\u2019s long-awaited joint album<\/a>, which is set to arrive sometime in December (and the title of which has yet to be announced).<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n<\/blockquote>\n
