\n<\/p>\n
\n\tA little over 10 years ago, Micah Nelson<\/a>\u2018s career took a very unexpected diversion when Neil Young<\/a> asked him, his brother Lukas, and Lukas\u2019 band Promise of the Real to back him on a series of albums, tours, and even a film<\/a> that kept everyone busy until the pandemic hit.<\/p>\n \n\tMicah was given another life-changing opportunity last year when Young invited him to join Crazy Horse, but their tour was called off at the halfway point<\/a> due to health problems within the band. Just months later, however, Young formed the Chrome Hearts with Micah, organist Spooner Oldham, Promise of the Real bassist Corey McCormick, and Promise of the Real drummer Anthony LoGerfo.<\/p>\n \n\tThe new group released Talkin\u2019 to the Trees<\/a><\/em> earlier this year, and spent the summer gigging across Europe and North America. These were truly remarkable concerts that revisited many of the greatest songs in Young\u2019s catalog, including \u201cAmbulance Blues,\u201d \u201cCowgirl in the Sand, \u201cHey Hey, My My (Into the Black),\u201d \u201cLike a Hurricane,\u201d and \u201cPowderfinger.\u201d The Chrome Hearts were ready for any surprise that Young threw in their direction, like the latter-day CSNY obscurities \u201cName of Love\u201d and \u201cLooking Forward,\u201d the Greendale<\/em> cuts \u201cSun Green\u201d and \u201cBe the Rain,\u201d and even his brand new anti-Trump screed \u201cBig Crime.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n \n\tThey had so much momentum that they didn\u2019t stop even when 82-year-old Oldham cracked his pelvis on a backstage basketball court hours before a show. They simply placed him in a wheelchair, and created a makeshift nurse\u2019s uniform for Daryl Hannah, Young\u2019s wife, to wear every night as she wheeled him out to his spot behind the organ.<\/p>\n \n\tMicah stayed in great health until he got home following the Sept. 20 finale at Farm Aid 40. \u201cWhen you finally stop, that\u2019s when you get sick,\u201d he tells Rolling Stone<\/em> via Zoom from his house. \u201cEverything catches up with you. [My wife] Alex and I both got sick. I think it was our bodies finally relaxing and not fighting off everything.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tBut he\u2019s feeling better today and ready to chat about the aborted 2024 Crazy Hour tour, the formation of the Chrome Hearts, the inspirations behind some of their surprising setlist choices, his latest EP Evil Weirdness,<\/em> his new \u201ccreator-owned music and social media ecosystem\u201d TheFlow, and the chatter about a 2026 Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts tour.<\/p>\n
