Lee<\/a> said he\u2019d once been offered a bribe of $500 plus benefits to change one note on a guitar solo \u2013 but refused.<\/p>\n<p>The incident took place while he was working on the 1989 self-titled debut of Badlands, the group he formed after leaving <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/ozzy-osbourne\/\">Ozzy Osbourne<\/a>\u2019s band.<\/p>\n<p>In a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guitarworld.com\/artists\/guitarists\/jake-e-lee-badlands\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Guitar World<\/em><\/a> the guitarist said he\u2019d been desperate to escape the restrictions of his previous role, and had a good reason to place an unusual sound on the track \u201cWinter\u2019s Call.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ MORE:\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/jake-e-lee-ozzy-reunion\/\">Jake E. Lee At Crossroads After Making Peace With Ozzy Osbourne<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the one where the first note in the solo is kind of off,\u201d Lee said. \u201cPaul O\u2019Neill was the co-producer for that album, and he said, \u2018Please, that first note, it just throws me for a loop!\u2019 I said, \u2018I don\u2019t want to change it. That\u2019s why I like that note so much! I think that note\u2019s perfect.\u2019<br \/>\u201cHe tried bribing me with money. He said, \u2018I\u2019ll give you 500 bucks right now out of my wallet, and tickets to see <em>Cats<\/em>, and I\u2019ll buy you dinner at the finest restaurant.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd he said, \u2018I\u2019m not even saying we\u2019ll use another one, I just want to hear one where it\u2019s not that weird note.\u2019 I said, \u2018Nope.\u2019 I knew if I recorded another one, somehow, that would end up being it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Jake E. Lee Recalls Being Restricted by Ozzy Osbourne<\/h3>\n<p>He explained why the note was so important to him: \u201cI wanted it to be kind of psychedelic-sounding. It\u2019s kind of out of tune, but I liked it so much \u2026 I was doing all these things to try and sound like I took acid in the \u201860s!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lee also outlined the restrictions he\u2019d come to resent in Osbourne\u2019s band. \u201cI always like a hard rock edge to whatever I\u2019m playing, but I wanted to experiment a little more,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was writing new stuff for <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/ozzy-osbourne-ultimate-sin\/\"><em>The Ultimate Sin<\/em><\/a> record, a lot of times Ozzy would say, \u2018What\u2019s that? That\u2019s not Ozzy, that\u2019s jazz.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d say, \u2018It\u2019s not jazz, but it\u2019s branching out a little bit.\u2019 Ozzy would say, \u2018No, This isn\u2019t <a href=\"https:\/\/ultimateclassicrock.com\/tags\/frank-zappa\/\">Frank Zappa<\/a>, this is Ozzy Osbourne.
