As of publication, the petition had 55,000 signatures. (A rep for Strait did not immediately respond to <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s request for comment.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cThe Super Bowl halftime show should unite our country, honor American culture, and remain family-friendly, not be turned into a political stunt,\u201d the petition claims. \u201cBad Bunny represents none of these values; his drag performances and style are the opposite of what families expect on football\u2019s biggest stage.\u201d (To be clear: Bad Bunny did drag once for the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-latin\/bad-bunny-drag-transformation-yo-perreo-sola-video-974467\/\">No Perreo Sola<\/a>\u201d music video. And even then, drag has long been a part of American culture.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe petition is a reflection of the political divide and xenophobia Bad Bunny\u2019s Latino heritage and lyrics in Spanish have ignited, along with his political views on immigrant rights amid the government\u2019s deportation policies. In an\u00a0interview with<em>\u00a0i-D\u00a0magazine<\/em>, he previously shared that he wasn\u2019t touring in the U.S. because he didn\u2019t want ICE to target his Latino fanbase outside his concerts. The country legend draws about 8 million monthly Spotify listeners \u2014 compared to Bad Bunny\u2019s 81.4 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cLongtime prejudices have meant that Latin artists have been regarded with suspicion, doubt, and even outrage throughout music history, but these attitudes have twisted into something far more intense and sinister as a result of the current administration,\u201d read a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/bad-bunny-super-bowl-controversy-maga-history-1235449974\/\"> commentary piece<\/a> from <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>\u2018s Julyssa Lopez. \u201cDespite the rhetoric rooted in such an ugly history, Bad Bunny will still take the stage in February, and he\u2019ll perform his songs in the language he wrote them in.
