While\u00a0Bon Jovi<\/a>\u2019s 2024 album, Forever<\/em><\/a>, made news headlines <\/a>for\u00a0falling out of the Billboard 200 a week after its Top 5 debut, the music itself\u00a0wasn\u2019t nearly as dire.\u00a0Arriving 40\u00a0years after their debut, the album seemed like a\u00a0timely\u00a0evaluation\u00a0by\u00a0a group that had weathered several recent changes, mostly with grace and cautious optimism.<\/p>\n Still, the band returned to the studio to revisit\u00a0Forever<\/em>‘s 12 songs with guests ranging from Bruce Springsteen<\/a> and Jason Isbell <\/a>to Avril Lavigne and Jelly Roll.\u00a0Forever (Legendary Edition)<\/em>\u00a0doesn’t so much alter\u00a0the album’s overall perspective, but it does\u00a0provide some\u00a0new\u00a0shades\u00a0to the songs.<\/p>\n Forever<\/em> was released amid vocal cord issues for singer Jon Bon Jovi<\/a>; he has said that\u00a0Forever (Legendary Edition) <\/em>was conceived because he wanted\u00a0to give more light to a record he\u00a0wasn’t able to promote on tour. Its nature makes it more of a supplement than a new album. There’s one new song, the LP opener “Red, White, and Jersey,” with the rest of the album repeating\u00a0the tracks in the same order as the 2024 version.<\/p>\n READ MORE:<\/strong> 2025 Album Reviews<\/a><\/p>\n The foundations of\u00a0Forever<\/em>‘s songs haven’t changed much. Whether it’s\u00a0the War and Treaty adding gospel soul to “The People’s House” or Def Leppard<\/a>‘s Joe Elliott<\/a> providing arena-rock muscle to “Walls of Jericho,” the guests supply lively, if mostly unnecessary, verse and chorus vocal assistance to Bon Jovi’s familiar hook-filled ’80s and ’90s flashbacks.<\/p>\n The best moments on Forever (Legendary Edition)\u00a0<\/em>are the solo and the highest-profile ones.\u00a0“Red, White, and Jersey” features the band without\u00a0collaborators,\u00a0presenting\u00a0a direct line\u00a0without any outside distractions; meanwhile, Springsteen’s throaty assist (and Nebraska<\/em><\/a>-like harmonica) on “Hollow Man”\u00a0punctuates the real connection between the artists. They’re not always ideal fits: Country singer Lainey Wilson seems out of place, and the Spanish version of “We Made It Look Easy” with Carin Leon is a huge misstep.
