After a few years leaning into the punk-rock edge of her 2022 album <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-news\/demi-lovato-holy-fvck-north-american-tour-1364078\/\">Holy Fvck<\/a> <\/em>and revisiting her old songs with a grittier twist on 2023\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/demi-lovato-announces-revamped-album-exclusive-new-music-1234786802\/\">Revamped<\/a><\/em>, Lovato is back to the sound where she shines brightest. Teaming up with pop-production mastermind Zhone, she leans into playful synths, club-ready energy, and free-flowing sounds that live up to the album\u2019s title nearly throughout.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThe album\u2019s release follows an impressive rollout that saw Demi flip her old \u201ctaking-things-too-seriously\u201d energy on its head, leaning into the memes and moments that once dogged her. (Yes, she even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cosmopolitan.com\/entertainment\/celebs\/a65561603\/demi-lovato-the-bigg-chill\/\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">went back <\/a>to The Bigg Chill, the froyo shop she once tried to cancel.) It shifted the way people viewed what was coming, and the music mirrors that spirit of letting go, reminiscing on the past with a smile, and not taking herself too seriously in the present. Over a radio-ready beat, Lovato offers herself grace on \u201cSorry to Myself,\u201d while owning her mistakes. \u201cSorry for the starving, sorry for the burnout, sorry for the one ex who always broke me down,\u201d she sings to herself, referencing her struggles with an eating disorder and that past love who has inspired many of her heartbreak songs. On that track and \u201cLet You Go,\u201d the production shines bright but never overtakes Lovato\u2019s vocals.
