{"id":49885,"date":"2025-10-23T16:51:51","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T16:51:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/23\/secret-history-of-why-barbara-mandrell-seemingly-vanished\/"},"modified":"2025-10-23T16:51:51","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T16:51:51","slug":"secret-history-of-why-barbara-mandrell-seemingly-vanished","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/musicianvoice.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/23\/secret-history-of-why-barbara-mandrell-seemingly-vanished\/","title":{"rendered":"Secret History of Why Barbara Mandrell Seemingly Vanished"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/tags\/barbara-mandrell\/\">Barbara Mandrell<\/a>&#8216;s\u00a0appearance during the <a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/tags\/grand-ole-opry\/\">Grand Ole Opry<\/a>&#8216;s television concert on March 19, 2025, brought back all kinds of memories for her fans and fans of great &#8217;80s country music.<\/p>\n<p>She was there as <a href=\"https:\/\/tasteofcountry.com\/tags\/kelsea-ballerini\/\">Kelsea Ballerini <\/a>performed &#8220;I Was Country When Country Wasn&#8217;t Cool,&#8221; her hit from 1981.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, NBC even forwarded video of Mandrell seated on a stool in a blue pant suit, swaying along to the young singer&#8217;s tribute.<\/p>\n<div class=\"branded-app-shortcode-inarticle\">\n<div class=\"logo-wrap\" rel=\"fwef\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The 76-year-old smiled in appreciation as fans stood to applaud her return to the stage.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s an Opry member who performs very rarely. In fact, Mandrell sightings are so uncommon that you can be forgiven for wondering, &#8220;What happened?&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Barbara Mandrell&#8217;s Best Songs<\/h3>\n<p>Mandrell is a two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year who few people mention when talking about the greatest women of country music, and that&#8217;s a shame.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Sleeping Single\u00a0in a Double Bed&#8221; singer was a crossover force for more than a decade, long after events that some say derailed her white-hot career.<\/p>\n<p>If we&#8217;re being honest, what happened immediately after said events has more to do with why no one sees or hears from Mandrell much any longer.<\/p>\n<div class=\"branded-app-shortcode-inarticle\">\n<div class=\"logo-wrap\" rel=\"fwef\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/townsquare.media\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/tasteofcountry.png?w=100\" alt=\"Taste of Country logo\"\/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The diminutive Texan played an assortment of instruments with a fluency that&#8217;d make any guitar picker jealous.<\/p>\n<p>She sang, danced, did some acting \u2014 just flat-out entertained on any stage she took, including on television for two years. &#8220;(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don&#8217;t Want\u00a0to Be Right,&#8221; &#8220;Years,&#8221; &#8220;Till You&#8217;re Gone&#8221; and &#8220;One of a Kind Pair of Fools&#8221; are a few more of Mandrell&#8217;s greatest hits.<\/p>\n<h3>What Happened\u00a0to Barbara Mandrell?<\/h3>\n<p>A tragic car crash in 1984 changed her forever, and a lawsuit that followed tarnished her reputation at that time. But she&#8217;d still drop five Top 5 singles and cut nine more albums before calling it quits.<\/p>\n<p>Why did Barbara Mandrell quit? That was the topic of\u00a0a\u00a0<em>Secret History of Country Music<\/em> video that Taste of Country shared in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The real short answer is that Mandrell walked away for good after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mfZFMzY_D4o\" target=\"_blank\">final performance<\/a> at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on Oct. 23, 1997, because she wanted to focus on family, particularly her high school-aged son.<\/p>\n<p>She was nearing 50 years old at the time \u2014 far past the age most country singers maintain dominance on the charts.
