But when he \u2014 and the audience \u2014 need a joy break, Springsteen fires up his Trans Am, points it southeast to Asbury Park, and hops onstage at his safe space, the Stone Pony, to jam with the house band.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWho just happen to look like an amalgamation of the present-day rock acts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/greta-van-fleet\/\" id=\"auto-tag_greta-van-fleet\" data-tag=\"greta-van-fleet\">Greta Van Fleet<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/rival-sons\/\" id=\"auto-tag_rival-sons\" data-tag=\"rival-sons\">Rival Sons<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tThat\u2019s not an accident. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/dave-cobb\/\" id=\"auto-tag_dave-cobb\" data-tag=\"dave-cobb\">Dave Cobb<\/a>, the Grammy-winning producer known for his work with Chris Stapleton, Jason Isbell, and Brandi Carlile, serves as soundtrack producer of the film and produced Greta Van Fleet\u2019s 2023 <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/greta-van-fleet-singer-josh-kiszka-on-why-he-came-out-1234806138\/\">Starcatcher<\/a><\/em> album and a string of LPs by Rival Sons, including 2018\u2019s stellar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-features\/rival-sons-feral-roots-grammy-awards-942497\/\"><em>Feral Roots<\/em>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tDubbed Cats on a Smooth Surface, the Pony\u2019s house band was in fact a real group, led by frontman Bobby Bandiera, who at one point nearly joined Springsteen\u2019s E Street Band. Their repertoire consisted mostly of early rock and soul covers, like \u201cTwist and Shout\u201d and \u201cLong Tall Sally.\u201d In the film, they\u2019re shown performing Little Richard\u2019s \u201cLucille\u201d and John Lee Hooker\u2019s \u201cBoom Boom\u201d with White.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\tWhen putting together the Stone Pony band for <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/t\/deliver-me-from-nowhere\/\" id=\"auto-tag_deliver-me-from-nowhere\" data-tag=\"deliver-me-from-nowhere\">Deliver Me From Nowhere<\/a><\/em>, producers clearly leaned on Cobb\u2019s connections, casting GVF guitarist Jake Kiszka and bassist Sam Kiszka as the Cats\u2019 guitar and bass player, respectively, and Rival Sons\u2019 singer Jay Buchanan as Bandiera \u2014 though he\u2019s listed as \u201cCats on a Smooth Surface \u2013 Lead Singer\u201d in the credits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-line-height-copy  lrv-a-font-body-l   \">\n\t\u201cOur journey with this project began through Dave Cobb\u2026 Dave\u2019s involvement sparked the connection, and soon he was appointed musical director for the film,\u201d Greta Van Fleet\u2019s Jake Kiszka tells <em>Rolling Stone<\/em>. \u201cI was working with him at his studio, Low Country Sound in Savannah, Georgia, when he shared the project with me. Scott Cooper, the director, was searching for a \u2018young, hip rock \u2018n\u2019 roll band\u2019 \u2013 someone like Greta Van Fleet, he suggested.
